    Hi Thomas. N Amutenya,

As Q&A Assist response, Copilot web does not support drag and drop from another tab. You may use copy and paste method that Q&A Assist suggested.

However, you can use drag and drop from a web tab to Copilot desktop app. Please consider Copilot desktop app if you want to use drag and drop.

I hope that above information is helpful to you.

Dragging selected text directly into Copilot is not described as a supported interaction pattern in the provided documentation. Copilot in Microsoft Edge is designed to work with:

    • Typed or pasted prompts in the Copilot pane or new tab composer box.
    • Page content, open tabs, and browsing context that Edge passes to Copilot when asked to summarize or answer questions about the current page, PDF, or video.

If dragging text into the Copilot area results in a blank input, use one of these supported methods instead:

    1. Select and copy the text (Ctrl+C) from the source tab, then click into the Copilot prompt box and paste (Ctrl+V).
    2. With the page containing the text open, ask Copilot something like:
      • “Summarize this page.”
      • “On my current page, explain the selected section about …”
    3. In a new tab with Copilot, type the question directly and optionally paste the relevant excerpt.

Copilot will then use the query, recent conversation history, and page/browsing context (including content from the current page or open tabs when needed) to generate a response.

If the input box itself remains blank even when typing or pasting, check whether Copilot in Edge is working normally by opening a new tab and using the Copilot composer there. If issues persist across normal typed/pasted prompts, this indicates a broader Copilot-in-Edge problem rather than drag-and-drop behavior and may require standard Edge troubleshooting (sign out/in, update Edge, or reset profile) or support.
