Is there a way to retrieve deleted items from within the Library (Real Time); or view what has been deleted?

    Dear @Monique Delage

Good day, and I appreciate the clear explanation of your concern.

In most cases, deleted files can still be retrieved and reviewed. However, this is handled through the storage service behind Microsoft Teams, which is SharePoint or OneDrive, rather than from a dedicated deleted items view inside the Teams Library itself.

Below are the scenarios that align with your situation and how you can proceed:

    Notes:

    • Deleted files are retained for up to 93 days by default before permanent deletion. After this period, files cannot be recovered.
    • Access to Recycle Bin or advanced recovery options depends on organizational permissions. If access is restricted, contacting your IT administrator is recommended.
    • Some of these steps were already shared earlier by Q&A Assist and you may refer to them for more detailed guidance.

Scenario 1: Files stored in a Teams channel (SharePoint Library)

When files are deleted from a Teams channel, they are moved to the SharePoint Recycle Bin and can be restored within the retention period.

    Open Microsoft Teams.

Go to the relevant Team and select the channel.

Open the Files tab > Click Open in SharePoint.

In SharePoint, select Recycle bin from the left panel.

    Locate the deleted file.

Select the file and click Restore.

Restored files will return to their original location.

Scenario 2: Files stored in OneDrive via Teams

If the file was accessed or stored through OneDrive in Teams, it follows OneDrive behavior.

    Open Microsoft Teams.

Go to the OneDrive app > Select Recycle bin > Find the deleted file > Click Restore.

The file will be restored to its previous location.

Scenario 3: File not found in the Recycle Bin

If the file is no longer visible in the standard Recycle Bin, it may still exist in the second stage Recycle Bin.

Please note that access to this level typically requires site collection administrator permissions.

Open SharePoint > Go to Recycle bin > Scroll down and select Second-stage recycle bin > Locate the file > Restore it.

Workaround: Restore the entire library or OneDrive to a previous point in time

    • Restoring will revert the entire OneDrive or library to an earlier state within the last 30 days, undoing all changes made after that point.
    • Any files or changes created after the selected restore time will be moved to the Recycle Bin, not permanently deleted, so they can still be recovered if needed.

Deleted files in a Teams channel library (which is a SharePoint document library) or in OneDrive can usually be retrieved and viewed via the Recycle Bin and related restore features.

To retrieve or view deleted items from a library in real time:

    1. Open the underlying SharePoint document library (for Teams channel files, use “Open in SharePoint” from the Files tab in Teams).
    2. In the SharePoint site, select Recycle Bin in the left navigation (or go to Settings > Site contents and then Recycle Bin if it’s not visible).
    3. In the Recycle Bin, all recently deleted files and folders from that library are listed. Select one or more items and choose Restore to recover them to their original location.
    4. If the item is not in the first-stage Recycle Bin, scroll to the bottom and select Second-stage recycle bin (if available) to see items that have been deleted from the first stage.

For OneDrive or other SharePoint/Teams scenarios where items are missing or corrupted:

    1. Check the Recycle Bin as above.
    2. If not found, and if the content loss is large (many files/folders), use Restore a shared library to roll the entire library back to a previous point in time (last 30 days). This undoes all actions (deletes/overwrites) in that period.
    3. If still unresolved, follow the documented recovery steps for missing/deleted/corrupted items and, if necessary, contact Microsoft 365 support with the required details (site URL, item names, approximate time of last good state). SharePoint Online keeps backups for 14 additional days beyond deletion, which admins can request to restore at the site-collection level.

These mechanisms let library owners and admins both view what has been deleted (via Recycle Bins and version history) and restore items, subject to retention limits.
