Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Dear @JoseAP,
I understand how frustrating this is. If manual uninstall and registry edits didn’t help and the installer keeps looping to Get Help, the most reliable “clean removal” is to use Microsoft’s official Office Uninstall (scrub) tools, then reinstall from your account.
Below is the shortest, most effective path I use in these cases.
Step 1: Cleanly remove all Office/Microsoft 365 components
Option A (GUI): Microsoft “Uninstall troubleshooter” (Get Help flow)
- Close all Office apps (Word/Excel/Outlook/Teams).
- Open Microsoft’s official uninstall article and run the uninstall troubleshooter: Uninstall Microsoft 365 or Office from a PC - Microsoft Support
- If Windows shows “This site is trying to open Get Help”, click Open and follow prompts, then restart.
- Run the troubleshooter again if it reports multiple versions or partial removal (this is common when remnants exist).
Note: The uninstall troubleshooter requires Windows 10 or later.
Option B (Best when Get Help UI is broken): Command-line “Get Help” Office scrub
If the Get Help app opens but doesn’t complete, use Microsoft’s supported command-line removal scenario:
- Download the command-line version of Get Help (per Microsoft Learn). Please refer to this document: Office uninstall with the command line version of Get Help - Microsoft 365 | Microsoft Learn
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
- Run one of these (most customers should use All):
GetHelpCmd.exe -S OfficeScrubScenario -AcceptEula -OfficeVersion All - Or (subscription-only removal):
GetHelpCmd.exe -S OfficeScrubScenario -AcceptEula -OfficeVersion M365 - Microsoft documents the exact switches and examples here.
- Restart after it completes (Microsoft also recommends restart to finish cleanup).
Option C (If uninstall/installer is “stuck” due to Windows installer corruption)
Run Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter to fix corrupted install/uninstall registry entries: Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed. This can resolve cases where Office can’t be removed/installed because Windows believes another install exists or uninstall data is corrupted.
Step 2: Reinstall Microsoft 365 (after cleanup)
- Restart the PC once after uninstalling completes.
- Sign in and install from office.com using the same account tied to the license (Microsoft’s reinstall guidance).
- If install still fails, Microsoft recommends trying the offline installer to bypass proxy/firewall/AV/network issues.
Please refer to this document: Troubleshoot installing Office - Microsoft Support
(You can also use Microsoft’s “Troubleshoot installing Office” page as the official decision tree for install failures.)
