Hi, You only need to sign in here to check the account’s date of birth and confirm whether it meets the required age for your country or region:

    https://account.microsoft.com/profile

Regarding why you cannot change the settings on a child account, that can depend on the situation. It may be because the account is not registered as an adult account, or because the child account has not been added correctly to the Microsoft Family group.

Please make sure the adult account is added as the Organizer, and the child account is added only as a Member.

Once that is confirmed, the Organizer should be able to manage the child account settings from the Microsoft Family page.

Some Minecraft Bedrock and Xbox online features stay restricted if the Microsoft account is treated as a child account or is still under Family Safety/Xbox family controls, even when permissions appear to be allowed. A manual age check/change of birthdate is not supported for child accounts; the account must reach statutory adult age, or the organizer must adjust settings.

Use these steps to reduce restrictions as much as possible:

    1. Confirm whether the account is considered a child
      • If the birthdate on the Microsoft account is under statutory age, it is treated as a child account. The birthdate on a child account cannot be changed to make it an adult account.
      • If the birthdate is wrong and shows underage, use the interactive tool linked in Managing parental consent to determine the correct path to fix it: Start.
    2. Ensure parental consent and family settings are correct
      • If the account is in a Microsoft family, the organizer must:
        • Sign in to the Family Portal at family.microsoft.com and turn off or relax Family Safety features and activity reporting for that member.
        • Sign in to Xbox privacy/online safety settings (for the child’s profile) and set online safety options such as “You can join multiplayer games” and similar to Allow. These changes can take some time to propagate.
      • If restrictions persist after removing the account from Family Safety, a known workaround is:
        1. Add the account back into the Microsoft Family.
        2. Disable all Family Safety “Features” and “Activity reporting” for that account again.
        3. In the Xbox online settings for that profile, set all Xbox and Windows 10 devices online safety options to Allow.
        4. Leave the account as a Family Safety member, sign out of Xbox/Minecraft on the device, then restart the device.
    3. Understand limits on changing a child account to adult
      • For a Microsoft account that is a child account, changing the date of birth to make it an adult is intentionally blocked to prevent bypassing family restrictions. The account must reach adult age (18 or the legal adult age in the region) before it is treated as an adult and can leave the family group or remove restrictions.

If the account is genuinely an adult account but is still being treated as a child, use the interactive tool from Managing parental consent to correct the age status, and ensure the account is not unintentionally part of a family group with restrictive settings.
