When my students are practicing their reading coach readings the AI is giving false readings for ommisions. It is coming back as 315 ommisions which is not the case. How can I fix this problem.

    Hi Daniel Doyle

Reading Coach uses AI to analyze pronunciation and fluency, and while it generally provides helpful feedback, it can occasionally misidentify words (for example, marking correct words as omissions). This can happen due to factors such as audio clarity, background noise, pacing, or recognition sensitivity.

As the results don’t reflect the student’s actual reading performance, to help improve accuracy, you can try the following:

    • Ensure the student is using a clear microphone in a quiet environment
    • Ask the student to read at a steady pace without speaking too quickly
    • Review the submission and, if needed, manually adjust the results before returning the assignment

If the issue continues across multiple students or assignments, it may be worth reporting through Feedback > Report a problem in Microsoft Teams so the product team can investigate further.

Reading Coach and Reading Progress use AI-based fluency detection, but the context provided does not include any configuration or troubleshooting steps that change how omissions are detected or scored, nor any way to adjust the AI sensitivity or override its results.

    The available documentation only covers:

    • How students complete Reading Coach assignments and practice words after Reading Progress recordings.
    • How educators review and return Reading Progress assignments, including viewing “Practiced words,” attempts, and tools used.
    • How to access or disable Reading Coach at the tenant level.

None of these describe controls or fixes for incorrect omission counts or mis-detections by the AI.
