Hi, I would like to import Json file to Excel, after i clicked the "Into Table" button, the table showing as my attachment file above, the table header showed without the "Expand" icon, it only has the dropdown menu, thus i cant expand the table and show the data from Json file into the table. Anybody can tell me the solutions? Thank you

    Dear @Kara,

I understand how confusing this behavior can be, especially when you are expecting to see the “Expand” icon after importing your JSON file. To better understand why the “Expand” icon is missing in your case, I’d like to ask a few quick questions to help narrow this down:

    • First, could you confirm what you see in the Power Query Editor before clicking “Into Table”? For example, does it show a List, Record, or already a table with columns like “Name” and “Value”? This helps determine whether you are at the correct level of the JSON structure.
    • Next, after you click “Into Table”, what does your column actually display? Do you see values like [Record], [List], or just normal text/numbers?
    • Another helpful detail is the structure of your JSON file. Is it a simple flat structure (like a list of objects with fields such as name and age), or does it contain nested objects inside other objects?
    • If possible, could you please share screenshots for me to better determine the issue?

In the meantime, I’d also like to confirm your exact steps, could you try importing your Json file to Excel again by following the Microsoft Official Guide here: Import data from data sources (Power Query) and File: JSON + Table.ExpandTableColumn

Moreover, here are some relevant information I recommend you look through: How to expand columns dynamically in Power Query and How to expand a column that cannot be expanded in Power BI and Power Query in Excel

Thank you for your patience and understanding. I'm looking forward for your reply.
