Outlook Calendar plays an unknown tone for event alert on my iPhone

I use Outlook calendar on my iPhone and cannot change the event alert tone. I've done all the troubleshooting in Notifications and Sounds & Haptics on my iPhone settings for Calendar but nothing works.

I do not have Outlook app installed on my iPhone and use Outlook Live to access my mail on my Mac laptop.

How can I change the calendar alert tone on my iPhone?

Apple Support suggests I delete the calendar app on my iPhone and re-install. I am uncomfortable doing that but do I have any other options?

On iPhone, Outlook calendar alert sounds are controlled inside the Outlook for iOS app itself, not from Outlook on Mac or Outlook on the web.

To change or turn off Outlook calendar sounds on iOS, the Outlook app must be installed on the iPhone:

    1. Install and open Outlook for iOS from the App Store and sign in with the same account used for the calendar on the iPhone.
    2. Tap the gear icon (Settings) in Outlook.
    3. Under Calendar, tap Notifications.
    4. Tap Sound and choose the desired tone for Calendar Notifications, or select Silent to turn the sound off.

If the Outlook app is not installed, iOS will use the built‑in Apple Calendar app and its tones, which are managed only through iOS Settings and the Calendar app. There is no separate Outlook calendar sound control on iPhone without the Outlook app.

Reinstalling the Apple Calendar app (as Apple suggested) only affects the built‑in Calendar, not Outlook’s own notification sounds. To gain full control over Outlook calendar tones, installing Outlook for iOS and configuring Settings → Calendar → Notifications → Sound in that app is required.
