For Outlook, the language is controlled either by the device (mobile apps) or by the Outlook web/app language settings. After regaining access to the account, change the language back to English as follows.
For Outlook on Android or iOS
- The Outlook app follows the device language. Change the device language to English:
- Android: open Device Settings > Language and input and set English as the device language.
- iOS: open Settings > General > Language & Region and set English.
- On some Android devices, Outlook also lets you change language in-app:
- Open Outlook.
- Go to Settings > General > Language and select English.
For Outlook on the web (Outlook.com)
- Sign in to Outlook.com.
- Open the Outlook language settings page using the Outlook.com or Hotmail language settings link.
- Choose English from the language list and save.
If other Microsoft pages or services are also in the wrong language, check:
- PC language settings (Windows display language) and set it to English.
- Browser language settings (for example, in Microsoft Edge, go to Settings > Languages) and move English to the top.
- Microsoft account language settings at the account profile page and set English as the display language.
If security notifications (verification emails/SMS) are in the wrong language because of the hack, remove and re-add the security info (phone/email) so that it is recreated with the correct language. Do not remove all security info at once to avoid a 30‑day restriction.
