Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

To help narrow down the issue:

    1. Did this start after any change or update? Did you recently subscribe or renew Microsoft 365?
    2. Are you using a Windows PC or a Mac?

Any additional info about the issue you can provide will be helpful in diagnosing and resolving the issue.

The behavior matches a known Word issue where new, blank documents repeatedly open or Word appears to be stuck in a loop.

Starting in Version 2507 (Build 19029), Word for Microsoft 365 can repeatedly open new blank documents without being prompted. This is fixed in Version 2509 (Build 19231) and newer.

    Resolution steps:

    1. Check the installed Office/Word version (for example, in Word go to File → Account → About Word).
    2. If the version is earlier than 2509 (19231), update Microsoft 365 Apps to the latest available build.
    3. After updating, restart Word and test again.

If Word still loops after updating, perform an Online Repair of Office from Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Microsoft Office → Modify → Online Repair.
