Excel App not loading on Android Sansung S24 Ultra

I have not been able to open an Excel Spreadsheet on Android Excel App or through the Microsoft 365 App. Have been able to up until about 04/20/26. Found some info on MS page. Tried uninstall app, reboot phone, update app, something mentioned a "Microsoft Portal" app. Do not have that on my phone. It does not show in Play Store.

Don't know what else to do.

Thanks

Mike

The behavior matches a known issue on recent Samsung devices caused by an Android System WebView regression from a Samsung security update. It affects multiple Microsoft apps (Outlook, Teams, Excel, etc.) and prevents them from loading.

Follow these steps on the Samsung S24 Ultra:

  1. Open Android System WebView in the Play Store
    • Go to Settings on the phone.
    • Use the search bar in Settings and search for “Android System WebView”.
    • Select App details in store (this opens the Play Store page for Android System WebView).
  2. Remove WebView updates
    • On the Android System WebView page in the Play Store, tap Uninstall or Remove updates (wording may vary).
    • Confirm when prompted.
  3. Reboot the phone
    • Fully restart the device (power off, then power on).
  4. Update Android System WebView again
    • After reboot, go back to Settings → search “Android System WebView” → App details in store.
    • In the Play Store, tap Update to install the latest version of Android System WebView.
  5. Launch Excel/Microsoft 365
    • Open Excel or the Microsoft 365 app again and sign in if prompted.
    • Excel spreadsheets should now load normally.

If “Android System WebView” does not appear when searching in Settings:

  1. Go to Settings → Google → All services → System services.
  2. Select Android System WebView.
  3. Then follow the same steps: App details in store → Remove updates → reboot → Update.

These steps address the underlying WebView issue rather than Excel itself, and are the recommended fix for Microsoft apps not loading on affected Samsung devices.

    Hi Michael,

I tried this app and it wants to change something on my phone and I do not know what that will do to the overall operation of my phone.

I think it is asking for permission to install the executable on your phone. I can assure you it is completely safe. Once Excel is installed, we can turn that setting off.

    Hi Michael,

I see you pressed No. Did it not work?

What about the Microsoft 365 App, which has Excel Builtin?

    Hi,

As an alternative, Please try this older version of APK:
