Follow these steps on the Samsung phone to connect the Microsoft 365 account and sync mail, calendar, and contacts.
- Open the Samsung Email app.
- If this is the first time opening it, tap Add account.
- Otherwise, go to Settings in the app and tap Add account.
- Enter the Microsoft 365 email address and password, then tap Sign in.
- If the app detects the provider, it may redirect to a Microsoft sign-in screen. Complete sign-in there.
- When prompted, allow sync:
- Tap Yes to sync calendar and contacts with the email account.
- If prompted for account type or manual setup:
- Choose Exchange (or Microsoft Exchange / Exchange ActiveSync) as the account type.
- If asked to choose between IMAP/POP and Exchange, do not choose IMAP or POP, because they only sync email and not calendar/contacts.
- Complete any additional prompts:
- Accept security permissions.
- Set sync options (e.g., how many days of email to sync) and a display name.
- If asked to give additional security control, choose Activate or Allow.
- If an email appears saying “Action Required to Sync”:
- Open the email.
- Tap Use another Mail app instead.
- Open Outlook or Samsung Email and confirm that mail, calendar, and contacts are syncing.
If the account still does not connect or new messages do not sync in Outlook for Android specifically, on some Android models it may be necessary to:
- Turn off power-saving mode or change its settings so Outlook and related Microsoft apps can launch other apps.
- Disable power optimization for Authenticator or Company Portal so they can run in the background.
- Open Authenticator or Company Portal first, then open Outlook and try adding the account again.
If the account was previously syncing and has now stopped, and it is an Outlook.com or Microsoft 365 for business account, use the Outlook.com sync troubleshooting guidance in the referenced article or contact the email provider/admin as indicated.
