Good day! I had a total disaster with my Windows 10 login the other day and I'm looking for a way to avoid that mess again. My PC locked me out and the only way to get back in was an email verification code, but since I dont have a smartphone with data, I literaly had to call a buddy and let him log into my personal inbox just to read me the reset digits. It was a huge security risk and honestly pretty embarrassing to do during work hours. Is there anyway to set up the recovery options so it just calls my landline or lets me answer some private security questions instead of relying on an internet-connected device or email?

Hi Aton Denim,
Your most robust offline solution is the 25-digit Microsoft Recovery Code. You can generate this by visiting account.live.com/proofs/manage, scrolling to the bottom of the page, and selecting "Generate a new code." This code must be physically printed or recorded and kept in a secure location. You can add your home phone number as a verification method within that same security dashboard. When adding the number, you must toggle the verification method from "Text" to "Call." This configuration instructs Microsoft’s Identity servers to use an automated voice system to read your security code over a standard telephone line, effectively removing the requirement for a smartphone or data plan. If you find that the online requirements of a Microsoft Account remain too restrictive, you can convert your Windows profile into a Local Account via Settings > Accounts > Your Info > Sign in with a local account instead.
A Local Account exists only on your machine's Registry and does not require an internet connection for authentication. Upon switching, Windows will prompt you to set three security questions. These are stored locally on your device and can be triggered at the login screen if you forget your password, allowing you to regain access purely through pre-set personal knowledge. This move effectively decouples your computer's accessibility from Microsoft’s online services and your internet connectivity status.
