Office 365 will not properly install or run on my samsung galaxy phone. Uninstalled and re-installed, when I try to sign in it just spins or in the case of individual apps like Word it won't open all the way. None of the 365 apps work. I have 365 family.

    Hi, Thomas Walters

This usually points to a stuck sign-in token or a Samsung/One UI permission conflict, not the Microsoft 365 Family subscription itself. A few Samsung-specific fixes keep coming up when the apps just spin, flash, or never fully open.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

It is recommended that you search your phone’s settings for Office Mobile, Microsoft 365, or M365 Copilot, open that app entry, and allow every permission it asks for. On Samsung phones, opening that hidden Office app and granting permissions has fixed Word and Excel not opening after an update.

If your phone has an old work/school Microsoft account on it, remove that account from Settings > Accounts. Then clear the affected app’s data and also clear Chrome/browser cookies and saved passwords, so the sign-in flow starts fresh.

If you ever used Secure Folder or a work profile, check there for old Office apps and remove them. Hidden duplicate Office apps there have blocked the normal apps from opening on Samsung devices.

As a temporary workaround, it is suggested that you use Word or Excel in the browser until the phone app starts behaving again, especially if this began right after a Samsung update.

Thank you for your patience in reading, I hope this information has been helpful to you.

Follow these steps on the Samsung Galaxy phone:

    1. Fully uninstall all Microsoft 365 apps
      • Uninstall Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Teams, and the Microsoft 365 (Office) app from the phone.
    2. Restart the phone
      • Power the phone off completely, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on. This clears any stuck app or sign-in state.
    3. Reinstall a single app first and test sign-in
      • From Google Play Store, install just one app first (for example, Outlook or Word).
      • Open the app and sign in with the Microsoft 365 Family account.
      • If sign-in hangs or the app will not open fully, force close the app and try again once.
    4. If sign-in still fails or spins
      • Uninstall that app again.
      • Restart the phone.
      • Reinstall the app from Google Play Store and try sign-in again.
    5. If the problem persists across all apps
      • Remove and reinstall both Outlook and Teams specifically (these are commonly linked to sign-in issues) and test again, as confirmed in a similar Samsung mobile scenario where uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook and Teams resolved an “unexpected error occurred” sign-in problem.
    6. After sign-in works in one app
      • Install the remaining Microsoft 365 apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, etc.) from Google Play Store.
      • All apps will reuse the working sign-in from the first app.

If none of the apps will sign in or open after these steps, collect the exact error message (if any appears) and contact Microsoft 365 support from another device, as the issue may be specific to the device’s environment or account backend.
