In Teams chats, right-click paste can be limited or show only options like “Select all,” especially after recent updates. Use these workarounds and checks:

Use keyboard shortcuts instead of right-click
- Paste: Ctrl + V
- Copy: Ctrl + C
- Paste as plain text (often avoids formatting issues): Ctrl + Shift + V
If using Teams in a browser (Teams for the web)
- The browser may be blocking clipboard access.
- In Edge:
  1. Select the lock icon / View site information in the address bar.
  2. Under “Permissions for this site,” find “Clipboard.”
  3. Set it to “Allow.”
- In Chrome:
  1. Select the View site information button in the address bar.
  2. Find “Clipboard.”
  3. Toggle it On to allow clipboard access.
If pasting URLs and they look shortened
- Teams may automatically shorten long URLs by design. To avoid extra formatting, use Ctrl + Shift + V to paste as plain text.

If the issue persists in the desktop app, test in Teams on the web (same account) to see if copy/paste works there. If it does, reinstalling or updating the desktop client is recommended.

I’d like to provide you with an update. This issue has now been officially identified by Microsoft as a service incident, and Microsoft has shared the latest status and details as follows:

Title: Users may be unable to use the copy and paste function in Microsoft Teams desktop client chats

User impact: Users may be unable to use the copy and paste function in Microsoft Teams desktop client chats.

More info: Impacted users report that they are unable to copy and paste URLs, text, and images in Microsoft Teams desktop client chats, as the paste option appears greyed out when using the right-click dropdown menu method. To bypass impact, we recommended that users attempt to copy the intended URLs, text, and images using Ctrl + C and paste using Ctrl + V for Windows, and corresponding Cmd + C and Cmd + V for Mac

Current status: We’ve identified the potential underlying issue and are deploying a fix through a staged rollout, while continuing to monitor telemetry to confirm recovery.

Scope of impact: Any user attempting to use the copy and paste function in Microsoft Teams desktop client chats may be impacted by this event. This section may be updated as our investigation progresses.

Start time: Friday, April 10, 2026, at 12:00 PM UTC

Root cause: A recent update to the Microsoft Edge browser which Microsoft Teams leverages, contains a code regression resulting in impact.

It is still not working. When pasting a screenshot or picture in an internal teams chat, it takes very long to buffer before I can continue typing. You are adding a million features, but the bread and butter (ctrl+p) is not working. Great job!

This "issue" is caused by AI checking the content of the pasted image.

There is an ongoing issue with the "Paste" option in Teams for Windows.

Microsoft has identified the issue, and a fix will be provided soon.

Meanwhile, you can use the Ctrl +V keyboard shortcut to paste images and text into Teams chat.

Unfortunately, uninstalling Teams and downloading and installing team's client did not fix the client-side issue. However, the function of past does work in the browser. Is there a permanent fix for the client version?
