Storing documents locally or in cloud services from within Teams
I hope you are having a wonderful day today.
Based on the details you shared that you are unable to locate your 8th Grade English class teams from last year and would like to regain full access to those archived classes and files.
The reason only your 7th Grade classes are visible in the Archived section is that your school's IT Administrator manages how and when classes are archived through a system called School Data Sync. Depending on how your school handled the end-of-year process, your 8th Grade classes may have been archived under a different account cycle, placed in a separate archive batch, or your membership access may have been removed from those teams prior to archiving. As a result, certain classes appear in your view while others do not.
To help you get back full access to your 8th Grade classes, please kindly follow the steps below:
1/ Check your archived Teams section manually
- To begin, open Microsoft Teams and click the three-dot menu next to your Teams panel, then select "Your teams and channels."
- From there, scroll all the way down until you reach the Archived Teams section.
- Please look carefully through the full list, as some classes may be listed under a different name or class code than what you may expect.
- Once you locate your 8th Grade English classes, you will be able to click into them and view all files, assignments, and conversations straight away.
2/ Check whether the 8th Grade Teams are archived but currently hidden
- Open Microsoft Teams on the desktop app or Teams on the web.
- Select Teams on the left menu, then scroll to the bottom of your Teams list.
- Open Hidden teams, and look for the missing 8th Grade English class names.
- If you find them, choose Show for each class so the Teams reappear in your main list, then open the class and confirm you can access Files and Channels.
3/ Locate the files through the class SharePoint site (even if the Team is not easy to find)
- Open any related class Team that is available, then go to the Files tab.
- Select Open in SharePoint to view the full document library linked to that class.
- Use the SharePoint search box to search by class name, teacher name, or a known file name from last year.
- If you locate the content, verify whether you can open and download files successfully, since file access can remain available even when the Team itself is not visible.
4/ Reach out to your school IT administrator
If the 8th Grade Teams do not appear anywhere, request an admin check for restore or permissions
- Ask your school’s Microsoft 365 administrator or the class owner to confirm whether the 8th Grade English Teams were archived, hidden, or deleted after the school year ended.
- If they were deleted, the administrator can check whether the Teams and Microsoft 365 Groups are still within the organization’s restore window and restore them if eligible.
- If they cannot be restored, the administrator can review the school’s retention policies or backup options for the connected SharePoint sites, and then provide you access to the recovered files.
I hope the information I shared earlier was somewhat helpful in addressing your issue. If you have any further questions or updates, please don’t hesitate to share. I’m always happy to assist further if needed.
Thank you for your patience and your understanding. I look forward to continuing the conversation.
