The version shown (16.78) is the last build that supports Office 2019 license types. Support for Office 2019 for Mac ended on October 10, 2023, and the October 2023 update (16.78) is the final build for those licenses. After end of support, Office 2019 for Mac no longer receives security updates, bug fixes, or technical support, but the apps continue to function.
Because the device now has Microsoft 365, activation must use the Microsoft 365 subscription license rather than an Office 2019 license. If the apps still show “License: Not Activated,” use these steps:
- Make sure the Microsoft 365 subscription is active and associated with the same account being used to sign in to Office.
- Remove any old Office 2019 license information using the License Removal Tool, as recommended when moving from Office 2019 for Mac to Microsoft 365:
- Open any Office app (for example, Word), and sign in with the account associated with the Microsoft 365 subscription.
- In the app, go to Help > Check for Updates and install any offered updates so the apps align with the Microsoft 365 subscription.
If activation still fails (for example, “No license found” or similar errors), follow the activation troubleshooting guidance for Office for Mac, including checking internet connectivity and resetting credentials via Keychain if needed.
