Email stopped working after changing domain DNS to Netlify (Microsoft 365 mailbox issue)

I recently changed my domain ([Moderator note: personal info removed]) DNS and nameservers to Netlify.

After this change:

  • My website is working correctly with HTTPS on Netlify
  • But my Microsoft 365 email ([Moderator note: personal info removed]) has stopped working

Error I see:

OwaUserHasNoMailboxAndNoLicenseAssignedException

DNS records currently configured:

  • MX: bubbleskatzz-com.mail.protection.outlook.com
  • TXT (SPF): v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com -all
  • CNAME: autodiscover.outlook.com

Issue:

  • Unable to access mailbox via Outlook Web
  • Seems like mailbox or license is not being detected after DNS change

Request:

Please help verify:

  1. If mailbox is correctly assigned and active
  2. If domain is properly verified in Microsoft 365
  3. If any additional DNS records are required after switching to Netlify DNS

This issue started immediately after changing nameservers.

    Hi @Skate Supply India

From the information you provided, I understand that after changing your domain's DNS and nameservers to Netlify, your Microsoft 365 email stopped working and is throwing the "OwaUserHasNoMailboxAndNoLicenseAssignedException" error, even though your website is functioning correctly. You would like to verify the mailbox status, domain verification, and if any additional DNS records are required.

Currently, in this situation, only an IT Admin has the access to check whether the mailbox exists and is active, along with verifying if the domain is fully authenticated in the tenant. Therefore, if you are not the IT Admin, you can suggest the following steps for them to check:

    1. Go to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Users > Active users. Find the affected mailbox to check if an Exchange Online plan is properly assigned and verify if the mailbox status shows as "Active".
    2. After that, go to the Exchange Admin Center > Recipients > Mailboxes. Check if the user is listed there and see if there are any reprovisioning errors. Please note that in many cases, if a license was just assigned, you may need to wait a few minutes for it to provision completely.

I hope this information helps you point your IT team in the right direction. Please let me know if you need any further details!
