There's no option to save or save as on my M365 Excel for laptop, so how can I convert the Excel to a txt file?

If you don't have the desktop software you can't very well open the Excel file with it. The desktop software is not included in the Basic subscription so you only have the Online web apps to work with.

Go to the File tab in Excel Online then use the Export> Download as CSV option. Any text-based program (such as Notepad) will open a CSV file — CSV simply is a specific type of text file. It then can be saved as .txt or several other file formats if you wish.

Note, however, that no calculations will be preserved in the exported file but their results will be displayed as values. Graphic content (such as Charts or Shapes) will be excluded as well.

The only problem now is that when I opened the CVS filevas txt, it had added quotation marks around each value andva comma at the end if each row.

It depends on the program being used to open the CSV as well as the cell formatting applied in the source worksheet. Typically the quotation marks indicate the content within is interpreted as Text & the comma indicates the end of each record [similar to a line break].

How can I stop this? I need the txt file for a medical analysis by software that cannot accept the quotes and possibly comma at the end. There are too many entrees to do this mechanically.

Without having access to the Excel file it's difficult to provide an explanation. I cannot reproduce what you're describing. When I export as CSV from the web app the result is as expected.

The one suggestion I can offer is to select the cells which contain Values & change the Format to Number rather than Accounting, Currency, or General. That should omit the quotation marks in the new CSV you generate.

I'm afraid I have no idea why there is a comma at the end of each record without having access to the original Excel workbook file.

If you continue to have a problem it may be best to contact the support group of the organization for which you need to supply the CSV.

I have M365 Microsoft basic, which comes without a desktop Excel. So how can I open my file in a desktop Excel app?

The Microsoft 365 Basic does not include the Microsoft 365 apps.

But you can still use Excel from the browser at https://m365.cloud.microsoft/
