Analytics and activity reports that help educators track student engagement and performance
Insights data that was already collected is stored and controlled at the service level and is not recreated just by removing and re‑adding students in Teams. The available context only describes:
- What student activity data Insights collects and who can see it.
- That institutions can request deletion of Insights data via a support ticket, after which the data is permanently removed.
- That if an institution sees no data in Insights on a new tenant, the likely cause is tenant configuration (education verification) or that activity has not yet been collected.
There is no documented mechanism to restore or “undelete” historical Insights data once it is no longer available in the Insights reports. When data is deleted by the service (for example, after a formal deletion request) it is explicitly described as permanently removed.
Given this, if the Insights tab now shows no historical data for those students, the previous Insights data is not recoverable through any supported feature. New activity going forward will be collected and reported, but past Insights metrics that are no longer present in the service cannot be restored.
If this behavior seems unexpected for the tenant (for example, if no deletion request was made and the tenant is properly verified as education), the only remaining step is to open a support ticket from the Microsoft 365 admin center so support can review the tenant’s Insights data state.
