Hi Masa ISHII,
I understand how frustrating it can be when Windows Update fails and, at the same time, your keyboard and mouse stop responding.
On Surface devices, error 0x800706f4 appearing alongside a non‑working keyboard and mouse often indicates that Surface system drivers or firmware are not loading correctly, particularly the components responsible for USB and chipset functionality. When these components are missing or corrupted, Windows Update may continue to fail regardless of update reset attempts.
Because of this, the recommended first step is to manually reinstall the Surface Studio 2 drivers and firmware package from Microsoft, as guided by Q&A Assist. This package restores essential Surface system components that both Windows Update and USB input devices rely on. You can download the package from the link below:

If you’re currently unable to use a physical keyboard or mouse, you can still proceed using touch:
- On the sign‑in screen, select the Accessibility icon (bottom‑right) and enable On‑Screen Keyboard, then sign in using touch
- Or, after signing in, go to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard, and turn on On‑Screen Keyboard
This should allow you to complete the driver installation. After installing the drivers and restarting the device, keyboard and mouse functionality should return.
Please note that Surface Studio 2 is no longer in its active servicing period, so it does not receive new firmware releases. However, previously released drivers and firmware remain supported and can be reinstalled to help restore normal functionality, which is the goal here. If the issue continues after completing these steps, further recovery options may be limited to system‑level repair, such as using a Surface recovery image.
Please let me know how the driver installation goes. I’ll be glad to help further.
