Billing refund

Hello,

I’ve been a Microsoft 365 subscriber since January 2021, using the Microsoft 365 Family plan (Screenshot 2026-03-30 at 19.51.20.png).

Recently, I reviewed my usage and realized that my needs would have been fully covered by a Personal plan. I acknowledge that I’ve been using the service during this time, but I unintentionally maintained a higher-tier subscription than necessary. I would add that it was never clear that a cheaper option was available.

Given my long-standing subscription and loyalty to Microsoft products, I wanted to ask if any goodwill gesture might be possible—such as a partial refund, account credit, or adjustment—reflecting the difference between the Family and Personal plans over a recent period.

I completely understand if this isn’t standard policy, but I would really appreciate any consideration you can offer.

Thank you for your time and support.

    Hi, I'm John!

To be clear and honest, Microsoft does not offer refunds, credits, or price adjustments for past subscription periods if the service was already used. This also applies even if a lower plan would have been enough.

There’s no goodwill or retroactive adjustment for the price difference between Family and Personal.

What you can do moving forward:

    • Switch to Microsoft 365 Personal before your next billing
    • Or turn off recurring billing so it doesn’t renew at the higher price
    • Continue using the Family plan until it expires (no loss of remaining time)

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Regards,

    John J.D.
