    Hi Novia, Mike

Please refer to Marcin’s response above, as it provides helpful information.

I would also like to add a few additional details. You may want to check your license type first by opening Visio > File > Account and reviewing the Product Information section (for example: Visio Professional 2024, Visio LTSC, or Visio Plan 2).

You can also sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/services to verify whether Visio is linked to your Microsoft account.

Based on your description, you may be using a Visio Professional / Standard (one‑time purchase) license. For this license type, uninstalling Visio from the old PC does not always release the activation. If you receive a message indicating that the license is in use on another device, you will need to contact Microsoft Support to have them reset and transfer the license to the new PC.

You can refer to the following thread for detailed steps on transferring the license: Move my Visio Pro license

If this is a Visio Volume License (MAK/KMS) for business use, please contact your IT administrator who installed Visio to request the license transfer. If the license was purchased through a reseller, please contact the reseller. If it was purchased directly from Microsoft, please contact Microsoft Support.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, feel free to ask.

To transfer a Visio license to a new computer, you need to uninstall it from the old device and then sign in to your Microsoft account (or use your product key) to install and activate it on the new machine. Retail and subscription versions of Visio can be transferred, but OEM versions are usually tied to the original hardware and cannot be moved. For subscription plans like Visio Plan 2 or retail one-time purchases (such as 2021, 2019, or 2016), start by uninstalling Visio from the old computer through the Control Panel. Next, sign in to your Microsoft account and make sure the old device is no longer associated with your account. On the new computer, visit Microsoft’s services page, find Visio under “Services & subscriptions,” and select “Install.” Finally, open Visio and sign in with your Microsoft account to activate it.
