Although I can deploy gpt 5.4 models in other region , I am unable to create agents with gpt 5.4 mini . Any ETA on when this will be available for customers to use in agents ?

gpt-5.4-mini is currently available as a Global Standard model in specific regions (East US2, Sweden Central, South Central US, Poland Central) for Azure OpenAI, but there is no documentation indicating support for gpt-5.4-mini in Foundry Agent Service (agents) yet.

The Agents (classic) model matrix lists up to gpt-5 / gpt-5-mini and earlier GPT‑4.x/4o variants, but does not include gpt-5.4-mini as an agent-supported model. The reasoning models article confirms gpt-5.4-mini availability for Global Standard usage, but does not extend that to agents or provide any timeline for when it will be usable in agents.

Model and feature availability for agents is centrally managed by Microsoft and exposed via the documented region/model tables; there is no supported way to request enablement of a specific new model (like gpt-5.4-mini) for agents ahead of the published roadmap, and no ETA is published in the provided documentation.

At this time, only the models explicitly listed as supported for Foundry Agent Service can be used to create agents. For newer models such as gpt-5.4-mini, usage is limited to the supported deployment types (for example, Global Standard or provisioned throughput) shown in the model availability tables, not agents.

    Hello DIVIN GEORGE,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A and Thanks for reaching out,

What you’re seeing is expected and not due to a configuration issue on your side.

Right now, there’s a gap between model deployment availability and Agent service support in Azure AI Foundry.

You can deploy GPT-5.4 family models (including the mini variant) in certain regions, but the Agents service only supports a specific set of models that have been onboarded and validated for agent workflows. As of now, GPT-5.4-mini hasn’t been added to that supported list, which is why it doesn’t appear when creating agents.

This is part of the normal rollout pattern:

    • Models are released first for deployment/API usage
    • Then later integrated into Agents (UI + orchestration layer)

So, in your case Deployment working.

Agent usage not available, this is expected behavior today

    Timeline / ETA

There isn’t a publicly shared ETA yet for when GPT-5.4-mini will be supported in Agents. These updates usually come incrementally after the base model release, but timelines aren’t committed in advance.

If you need something similar in terms of size/latency:

    • Use GPT-5-mini (5.0) or GPT-5-nano, where available
    • Or use GPT-5.4 if your scenario allows it

There’s no issue with your setup. GPT-5.4-mini is simply not yet onboarded to the Agents service, even though it’s available for deployment. You’ll need to use one of the currently supported models until it gets added.
