Hi all, looks like on version 11.3.7 of Windows App works as intended. I took up incoming call and I've been audible for whole time. (Teams version 26163.405.4842.717, Windows 11 build 26200.8893)
AVD Teams - microphone stops working if taking up ringing call
Hello,
I have quite very annoying issue in Teams. I am using Windows App on MacOS and connecting to AVD remote desktop. Teams there are AVD optimized and I have no issue with call quality. It works quite fine when i am joining scheduling calls ( I see orange mic icon on MacOS top bar indicating that windows App is using microphone). Problem occurs when someone is ringing (one to one calls, requests to join active call), then the microphone usage icon is briefly shown and then gone - so for some reason Windows App stops using microphone - and nobody can hear me. Can it be fixed, or at least workarounded by some settings in Windows?
Teams Version: 26043.2016.4478.2773
Windows version on avd: windows 11 23H2 22631.6783
Windows App version: Version 11.1.5 (2585)

2026-03-25T12:51:08.1433333+00:00 Dear Przemek Blaszkow,
Thank you for describing the issue with microphone behavior in Teams when using Windows App on macOS to connect to an AVD remote desktop. The scenario outlined shows that microphone access works correctly during scheduled calls but fails when incoming calls or requests to join active calls occur. This behavior is linked to how Windows App manages device redirection and microphone permissions in AVD sessions. The recommended best practice is to confirm that the latest versions of both Windows App and Teams are installed, as updates often address device redirection issues. Additionally, enabling microphone redirection explicitly in the AVD client settings and verifying that Teams is running in optimized mode for AVD can help stabilize microphone usage. Adjusting Teams device settings within the AVD session to manually select the microphone may also prevent disconnections during incoming calls. If the issue persists, creating a support request in the Azure portal with diagnostic logs from the AVD session will allow the engineering team to investigate further. This ensures that the configuration is validated against the latest optimization policies.

2026-03-25T12:00:47.0966667+00:00 The issue description matches a microphone access problem on the client side (macOS + Windows App) that manifests in Teams only for certain call types. The available context only covers generic Teams microphone troubleshooting, not AVD- or Windows App–specific behavior. The only supported guidance is to verify that Teams and the Windows session can consistently access the microphone and that the mic remains selected and enabled when calls change state.
Apply the following checks inside the AVD Windows 11 session where Teams is running:
- Verify Windows microphone privacy and access
- In the AVD session, open Start → Settings → Privacy & security.
- Under App permissions, select Microphone.
- Turn on Microphone access.
- Turn on Let apps access your microphone.
- Turn on the toggle for Microsoft Teams (work or school).
- Turn on Let desktop apps access your microphone.
- Close all apps in the AVD session and restart the AVD VM.
- Confirm the correct input device and that it stays enabled
- In the AVD session, open Start → Settings → System → Sound.
- Under Input, ensure the expected mic is selected in Choose a device for speaking or recording.
- Check Volume and confirm the mic is not muted.
- Select Advanced > More sound settings → Recording tab.
- Right‑click the mic and select Enable if it is disabled.
- Check Teams device selection and test calls
- In Teams (inside AVD), select Settings and more → Settings → Devices.
- Under Audio settings, confirm the same microphone is selected in the Microphone dropdown.
- Use Make a test call and verify that audio is recorded and played back correctly.
- During an actual call, if the mic stops working after accepting a ringing call, open More audio settings from the mic dropdown in the meeting window and confirm the mic has not switched to a different device.
- If using Teams for web in the AVD session
If Teams is running in a browser instead of the desktop app in AVD, verify the browser is allowed to use the mic:
- In Microsoft Edge in the AVD session: Settings and more → Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Microphone, and ensure Ask before accessing (recommended) is on.
- In Google Chrome in the AVD session: Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Permissions → Microphone, select the correct device and choose Sites can ask to use your microphone.
- General checks
- Ensure the mic is not muted via a physical switch or headset boom position.
- Confirm Teams and Windows are fully updated in the AVD session.
If the microphone works in scheduled/joined meetings but consistently fails only when answering ringing calls after these checks, the remaining step is to collect logs and open a support case, as the behavior is not covered by the available troubleshooting guidance.
