    Hello @Boresah Adams,

Based on the information you have provided, I understand that you are experiencing an issue when opening an Office application. The application displays the following error message: "Microsoft Office can’t find your license for this application. A repair attempt was unsuccessful or was cancelled. Microsoft Office will now exit.”

To help resolve this issue, please try repairing the Office application by following the steps below:

    1. Open Windows Settings
    2. Go to Apps and find for Installed apps
    3. Locate the Microsoft Office application
    4. Click the three dots (or right‑click) and select Modify
    5. Choose Quick Repair and wait for the process to complete
    6. Restart your computer
    7. Open the Office application again and check if the issue is resolved

If the issue still persists after completing the repair, please check whether there are any third-party applications running in the background on your computer, such as a VPN, antivirus software, or firewall. These applications may interfere with Office licensing. If possible, please temporarily disable them and attempt to open the Office application again.

Additionally, could you please confirm which version of Office you are currently using, such as Microsoft 365 Apps for business or enterprise, Office 2019, or Office 2021? You can find this information under Settings > Installed apps. It would also be helpful to know whether you are using a personal device or a company-managed device.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any update on this matter. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

The error indicates that Office cannot validate its license. This typically happens if Windows is running in Safe Mode or if the Office licensing components/registry entries are damaged.

Follow these steps on the affected Windows device:

    1. Make sure Windows is not in Safe Mode
      • Restart the device normally (not in Safe Mode).
      • Try opening Word/Excel/PowerPoint again.
      • If Office opens normally when Windows is not in Safe Mode, the issue was caused by trying to start Office while Windows was in Safe Mode.
    2. Check the Software Protection Platform registry entry
      1. Select Start, type regedit, and open Registry Editor.
      2. Go to: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
      3. Look for a SoftwareProtectionPlatform entry under CurrentVersion:
        • If SoftwareProtectionPlatform exists, skip to step 3 (stop running the app in compatibility mode).
        • If it does not exist:
          1. On another device where Office is installed and working, open Registry Editor and navigate to: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
          2. Right‑click SoftwareProtectionPlatform and select Export.
          3. Save the file as a .reg file to removable media or a location accessible from the original device.
          4. Copy the .reg file to the original device, right‑click it, and select Merge.
          5. Back on the original device, in Registry Editor, go to: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
          6. Right‑click SoftwareProtectionPlatform and select Permissions.
          7. Under Group or user names, ensure NETWORK SERVICE exists:
            • If not, select Add, type network service, and select OK.
          8. Select NETWORK SERVICE, check Allow for Full control, then select Apply and OK.
          9. Restart the device and try opening an Office app again.
    3. Stop running the Office apps in compatibility mode
      1. Close all Office applications.
      2. Locate the Office app that shows the error (for example, WINWORD.EXE, EXCEL.EXE, POWERPNT.EXE). By default, depending on installation type and bitness:
        • MSI-based:
          • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office1x
          • C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office1x
        • Click-to-Run:
          • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office1x
          • C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office1x (Replace 1x with the Office version: 16 for Office 2016, 15 for Office 2013.)
      3. Right‑click the Office app executable (for example, WINWORD.EXE) and select Properties.
      4. If the Compatibility tab is available:
        • Clear Run this program in compatibility mode for.
        • Select Change settings for all users.
        • On Compatibility for all users, clear Run this program in compatibility mode for again.
        • Select OK twice.
      5. If the Compatibility tab is not available:
        • Select Cancel to close Properties.
        • Right‑click the app (for example, OUTLOOK.EXE) and select Troubleshoot compatibility.
        • Select Troubleshoot program.
        • Clear all options and select Next.
        • Select No, I am done investigating the problem, then Next.
        • Select Close.
      6. Start the Office application again and confirm the error is resolved.

If the issue persists after these steps, repeat the registry check to ensure SoftwareProtectionPlatform exists and that NETWORK SERVICE has Full control permissions, then restart and test again.
