I am continuously receiving the error message shown in the attached screenshot whenever I try to delete an email from a specific Outlook group.

  • Name : @[Moderator note: personal info removed] / Email address : [Moderator note: personal info removed].com

It appears that this group is duplicated, and I would like to remove the duplicate group entirely. Could you please assist in resolving this issue?

Thank you for your support.

    Hi @Park, Juyeong

To better understand and address this issue, could you please help confirm the following details:

Does the issue occur with all emails in the Outlook group, or only with specific messages?

Does this behavior affect only your account, or do other members of the group experience the same issue?

Have there been any recent changes related to this group?

In the meantime, you may try the following workaround steps:

Use Outlook on the Web in an Incognito/Private browser window (Edge or Chrome), sign in to your account, and attempt to delete the email to check whether the issue persists.

Repair or reset the Outlook desktop client:  In Outlook desktop, go to File > Account Settings > Repair, or launch Outlook in Safe Mode, then try deleting the email again.

Please understand that our initial reply may not always immediately resolve the issue. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

Only a group owner can delete a Microsoft 365 Group. Deleting the group removes the group mailbox, conversations, files, calendar events, and related data, and it can be restored by an admin for up to 30 days.

To remove the duplicate group in Outlook (classic Outlook example):

    1. Open classic Outlook with the account that owns the group.
    2. In the folder list, under Groups, select the problematic group (for example, [Moderator note: personal info removed] ).
    3. On the ribbon, select Group Settings > Edit Group.
    4. On the Edit Group screen, select Delete group.
    5. Confirm the deletion.

If the group is being managed from Outlook on the web or new Outlook, use the Edit Group option for that group and delete it from the same screen; the delete option is exposed on the Edit Group page.

If the group is accessed from Outlook mobile (Android/iOS) and the account is a work or school Microsoft 365 account:

    1. Tap the Home icon and choose the Microsoft 365 account associated with the group.
    2. Tap Home again, then Groups.
    3. Tap the group name.
    4. Tap Info > Edit > Delete group.

If the error persists when trying to delete or manage the group, an Exchange or Microsoft 365 admin should:

    • Verify that the account used is listed as an owner of the group.
    • Attempt deletion from a different client (e.g., Outlook on the web vs. classic Outlook vs. mobile) using the same owner account.
    • If deletion still fails, use the Microsoft 365 admin tools or open a support request so Microsoft can investigate the backend error preventing deletion.

Remember that a deleted Microsoft 365 Group can be restored within 30 days if needed.
