Academic verification must succeed before access is granted. When the system shows “your academic status could not be verified” or “you don’t have access,” use these steps:
- Make sure the Microsoft account being used is correctly created and working
- If a Microsoft account cannot be created with the current email/phone, try:
- Signing up with a different email address or method (for example, email instead of phone).
- Creating the account from a different device.
- If setting up a new PC, either:
- Sign in with an existing Microsoft account first and add the new account later, or
- Use a local account and then switch to a Microsoft account afterward.
- If a Microsoft account cannot be created with the current email/phone, try:
- Confirm the email being used for academic verification
- If using a university email (for example,
******@university.edu), ensure a Microsoft account is created with that exact address. - If using a personal email but a university email exists, try using the university email instead.
- If using a university email (for example,
- Retry academic verification using the alternative verification flow
- If there is an option like “verify in a different way,” select it and follow the prompts carefully.
- Enter accurate, up‑to‑date information before submitting.
- If sign‑in or verification keeps failing
- Use the sign‑in helper or recovery tools if the Microsoft account itself cannot be accessed or recognized.
- If verification codes are involved and not arriving, follow the verification‑code troubleshooting guidance and, if needed, choose a different verification method or wait until access to the registered phone/email is available.
If these steps are followed and academic verification still fails, the most likely causes are:
- The institution or email domain is not supported in the verification system, or
- The information provided during verification does not match what the verification service expects.
In that case, retry with the correct university email and accurate details, and use any “verify in a different way” option offered by the system.
