Files Provider Extension bug in OneDrive app for iOS: OneDrive app for iOS fails to upload files through the File Provider Extension and Sharesheet from inside any app (like Photos or Mail or Whatsapp) on iOS device.

The issue is failure of file upload from OneDrive app using Files Provider Extension through iOS Files app. I have tried to upload the file with another OneDrive account, but it fails in the same way and the problem remains the same. This confirms that the issue is with the Files Provider Extension usage of OneDrive app and not with the OneDrive account.

The issue is not restricted with PDFs and photos, but occurs with all type of files. It occurs with all type of files like .docx, .xlsx, .pdf, .zip files, etc.

This issue occurs from all apps when files are uploaded using Files Provider extension through iOS ShareSheet. It occurs when trying to uploading file from any app via the Sharesheet option (e.g., from iMessage, Photos, or Mail, Whatsapp).

The issue occurs even when uploading is tried from different locations within the iOS Files app (e.g., local storage).  The issue is occurring while trying to upload with a normal folder (folder is not a shared folder). I am not using any VPN connection, but am directly connected to internet.

All the trouble shooting steps, viz. Clear Cache in iOS, Clear OneDrive Account Settings, Offloading the OneDrive app, Re-installing OneDrive app, have been tried multiple times on different iPhones.

Yet the problem remains the same on all iPhones. The issue occurs even after trying file upload from different networks and on all iPhones.

The upload happens without any problem when tried through OneDrive web.

There is also no problem when trying to upload through Files app to other cloud service providers like Google Drive account, or Dropbox account, or iCloud.

The problem is only when Files are tried to be uploaded on OneDrive account through Files app.

    Hi, SN_01

From what you described, this really sounds like an issue in OneDrive’s iOS Files/Share Sheet integration, not your account. Since it fails across different iPhones, networks, file types, and even other OneDrive accounts, the problem looks isolated to the OneDrive extension path. It is suggested that you check whether Background App Refresh and Location Services are enabled for OneDrive, and if photos are involved, turn off iCloud Optimize iPhone Storage. It is also recommended that you toggle OneDrive off and back on inside the iOS Files integration, because that can refresh the broken link. If upload works only inside the OneDrive app itself, that is probably the safest temporary workaround until Microsoft release future updates.

Thank you for your patience in reading, I hope this information has been helpful to you.
