Azure Backup → Restore / Cleanup issue

The restore point collection cannot be deleted even with PowerShell.

The restore point references non‑existent disks
The Recovery Services Vault has already been deleted
The restore point collection exists only as orphaned backend metadata
Resource Group: <PII Removed>
Resource type: <PII Removed>
Error: ResourceGroupDeletionBlocked

Can Microsoft Support remove the orphaned restore point metadata from the backend, after which the resource group can be deleted?

Please help.

This is a known Azure Backup scenario where a restore point collection is left behind as orphaned backend metadata after the VM, disks, and Recovery Services Vault are deleted. Since the restore point references non‑existent disks, deletion via Azure Portal or PowerShell is not supported. Microsoft Support must perform a backend cleanup to remove the orphaned restore point metadata and unblock the resource group deletion.
