The total cost of my subscription has gone down

Hello Neil, it sounds like you saw a big jump in February’s charges and then a $0 line-item for the following month even though your workloads never stopped. A few things can cause that “zero cost” appearance:

1. Azure credits or incentives kicked in
   • If you’re on a Free Trial, Visual Studio/MSDN monthly credit, or have an active EA/MCA credit balance, those credits are automatically applied each invoice period and can drive your net cost down to $0.
2. Reserved Instances or Marketplace credits applied
   • If you purchased an upfront reservation or have a Marketplace promo, the amortized reservation discount or promotional credit can offset raw usage fees.
3. Billing account/offer change
   • Moving from one offer (say Pay-as-you-go) to another (like an EA or CSP) mid-period can zero out line items while your usage simply rolls under a different billing construct.
4. Reporting vs. invoiced charges
   • The portal’s “Cost Analysis” blade sometimes resets or defers showing invoice adjustments until the invoice is finalized. You may see zero until the invoice actually posts, then a credit line.

Here’s how to drill in and confirm what happened:

• Go to Cost Management + Billing → Cost Analysis

• Set Scope to your subscription and time frame

• Switch from “Forecast” to “Invoiced charges” to see any credits applied

• Download the Usage Details CSV (Cost Management → Exports → Usage)

• Look for any credit meters or reservation amortization lines

• Check your Credit Balance (if you’re under an MCA or EA)

• Cost Management → Billing profile → Credits

If you still don’t see where February’s costs went, can you share:

1. Your subscription/offer type (Free Trial, Pay-as-you-go, EA, CSP, etc.)
2. Whether you have any active credits, reservations, or Visual Studio benefits
3. A screenshot of your Cost Analysis view filtered on “Invoiced charges” for Feb
4. The daily usage export for late Jan through mid Feb (anonymize any IDs)

That extra info will help pinpoint if it’s genuinely a billing error or simply credits/reservations doing their job.
