    Hi TONY O,

If Microsoft Copilot or Windows Copilot has stopped working on your device, please try the possible steps below to resolve the issue. These solutions address common setup, update, and connectivity conditions that can affect Copilot’s experience:

    Quick checks to try first:

    • Restart your PC to refresh system services
    • Check your internet connection and temporarily disable any VPN or proxy
    • Sign in to your Microsoft account (Settings > Accounts)

1, Confirm Copilot is enabled and up to date

    • Go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar
    • Make sure Copilot is turned On
    • Open Settings > Windows Update
    • Install all available updates and restart

2, Repair or reinstall Copilot if Copilot opens but does not respond:

    • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps
    • Select Microsoft Copilot > Advanced options
    • Choose Repair (or Reset if needed)

    3, If Copilot is missing:

    • Open Microsoft Store
    • Search for Copilot
    • Install and pin it to the taskbar

    4, For Copilot+ PC users

    • Ensure the Copilot app is installed from Microsoft Store
    • Update system and keyboard firmware if applicable
    • If the Copilot key is unresponsive, toggle the Fn key and restart

As mentioned by Q&A Assist, if the issue persists, Windows includes Copilot troubleshooters that can automatically check connectivity and access (For more information, please refer to Copilot troubleshooters):

    • Open Get Help
    • Search for Copilot
    • Run the available troubleshooters

Let me know if you need further assistance, feel free to ask me by clicking "Add Comment" or "Add Answer" if you cannot add comment so your response will be visible. Thanks for your effort.

Use the built-in Copilot troubleshooters and basic checks to restore functionality.

    1. Run Copilot troubleshooters
      • Open the Get Help app in Windows.
      • In the Search box, type Copilot License Troubleshooter and run it to verify the Copilot license and activation.
      • Then search for Copilot connectivity troubleshooter and run it to check for firewall or network blocks.
      • Apply any fixes suggested by Get Help and test Copilot again.
    2. Check Microsoft 365 Copilot in apps (if using Copilot in Word, Excel, etc.)
      • If the Copilot button is missing or disabled in Microsoft 365 apps, follow the steps in How to find and enable missing Copilot button in Microsoft 365 apps to:
        • Refresh the license in the app.
        • Verify privacy settings (connected experiences) are enabled.
      • If Copilot still does not appear, ask the Microsoft 365 admin to confirm a Copilot-supported license is assigned and that Copilot is not blocked by organizational policies.
    3. Fix license validation errors (if you see license-related messages)
      • Make sure the signed-in account actually has a Copilot license.
      • If working with work/school files, sign in with the work or school account that has Copilot.
      • If the file is stored in a third-party storage location, move or copy it to OneDrive or SharePoint and then try Copilot again.

If Copilot continues not to work after these steps, run the troubleshooters again and use the Get Help app options to contact support.
