Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

May I please confirm whether you have an active Microsoft 365 (Office 365) subscription associated with the account you are using to sign in to the Office apps on your iPad?

You can verify this by signing in here: https://account.microsoft.com/services

Please note that for iPads with a screen size larger than 10.1 inches, an active Microsoft 365 subscription is required to edit documents in the Office apps. If you no longer have an active subscription for the Office apps, you can purchase one here:

On an iPad, Word requires signing in with an account that has a valid Microsoft 365 or Office entitlement. The “no active account” message usually means the signed-in account is not associated with a Microsoft 365 subscription or the app is using the wrong credentials.

    Try these steps:

    1. Confirm the correct account
      • Make sure the email used to sign in is the one that has an active Microsoft 365 subscription (Family, Personal, or work/school account).
      • Do not use an Apple ID to sign in.
    2. Verify the account works in a browser
      • In a browser, sign in with the same email and password at the appropriate Microsoft 365 sign-in page to confirm the account and subscription are valid. See guidance in Where to sign in to Microsoft 365 from the context.
    3. Reset Word on the iPad
      • Go to iPad Settings.
      • Scroll down and tap Word.
      • Under RESET, tap Reset Word.
      • Enable Delete Login Credentials.
      • Close Word completely (Home button twice or swipe up, then swipe Word away) and reopen it.
      • Sign in again with the account that has the active Microsoft 365 subscription.
    4. Check system requirements
      • Ensure the iPad and Word app meet the current system requirements listed on the App Store or in the Microsoft 365 system requirements page referenced in the context.

If sign-in still fails after these steps, use the Microsoft account sign-in helper to check for account issues: Sign-in Helper.
