A family of Microsoft spreadsheet software with tools for analyzing, charting, and communicating data.
Excel and the other Microsoft 365 mobile apps are designed and tested only on a limited set of recent Android versions to keep security and reliability high.
From the current requirements:
- Microsoft 365 apps for Android are supported on the last 4 major versions of Android.
- Outlook for Android, for example, will only be supported on Android 10.0 or higher starting the week of January 5, 2026.
When Android moves forward and new versions are released, support for older versions is dropped, even if those older versions might still be technically capable of running the app. This is done to:
- Reduce security risk on old, unpatched systems.
- Simplify testing and support.
- Use newer platform APIs and features without having to maintain complex compatibility layers.
If a device is on an older Android version (for example Android 9 or below), the only supported path is to update the OS (if the manufacturer provides an update) or use a newer device that runs one of the last four Android versions. The minimum supported version is not something that can be lowered per user request.
