I’ve been struggling with the Teams background feature. We’ve created several images in different sizes, including the sizes recommended by Teams, but when I upload them as a background, the image loses a lot of quality. What should we do to make the background image look sharp and high-quality?

I created the background in Adobe Illustrator, having a vector logo and a gradient detail on a gray background in one version, and a gradient background in the second version (because I intend to have two backgrounds). I've already tested exporting in various sizes, including 4K, normal export, and "export for screens." However, at the moment I'm using a 2048x1152px artboard (since Teams says the maximum size it supports is 2048x2048px), and exporting "for screens" in PNG (the file size is less than 2MB each). All the versions I tested lose quality, losing less when used on a Mac than on a PC, and I always upload them through the installed Teams application on my computer (video effects and settings > backgrounds > add new). This happens in both meetings and previews.

This is a problem that has been going on for quite some time and for which I need an urgent solution. I would greatly appreciate any help and hope to find a solution. Thanks

I recommend using a 16:9 ratio (for example, 1920 × 1080 or 3840 × 2160) and a high‑quality JPEG export to help reduce any quality loss after upload.

After exporting, upload the JPEG image again through the Teams desktop app (Video effects > Backgrounds > Add new) and check both the preview and in‑meeting view.
