Using New Outlook on Windows for professional communication and productivity
Dear @Saul_F,
Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum.
I understand you’re experiencing an issue with dragging and dropping emails in the New Outlook.
From my research, the core issue is that the New Outlook is built on a web-based framework (WebView2/React) rather than the legacy architecture used by Classic Outlook. Because of this change, direct drag-and-drop integration with certain system and web-based file upload dialogs behaves differently than it did in Classic Outlook.
Until a direct bridge is built between the WebView2 container and the system’s file handler, here are the most reliable options currently available:
1.The "Two-Step" Drag
This issue can be bypassed by using your desktop or a local folder as an intermediary.
- Drag the email from New Outlook to your Windows Desktop or a folder.
- New Outlook will save it as an .eml file (note that Classic used .msg).
- Drag that .eml file from your desktop into the web-based upload dialog.
2.Using the "Save As" Command
- Open the email you wish to upload.
- Click the More actions (...) menu in the top right.
- Select Save as. Select Save as EML or MSG. This will download the email to your "Downloads" folder as a file, which can then be uploaded to any web dialog.
I can't stress enough the importance of your feedback in this scenario. I strongly recommend that you share your detailed experience and feedback directly with the Microsoft product team through their official feedback channels. This is the most effective way to make your voice heard and influence future feature improvements and adjustments.
You can visit the Ideas · Community to submit a new idea or vote on existing one. Our product team is in charge of the site, and they constantly check customer reviews and feedback. The higher votes, the more attention the related team will pay, and a lot of the features are developed and improved based on customer feedback. As a moderator, I will also pass along your feedback to the appropriate team for further consideration. While I don't directly influence product design, user feedback is actively reviewed and helps prioritize future development. If you’re unable to submit feedback yourself, please feel free to reach out to me, and I’ll be happy to submit it on your behalf.
I appreciate your kindness and understanding as we deal with these evolutionary product changes. Please get in touch if you need anything else.
