I am attempting to use One Note, and I am getting a pop up that says my account is out of storage. However, when checking my account, it says I am currently using 36.7 GB of 1 TB. Is someone able to help me with this error?

    Hi @Borland, Ashley M,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

According to your concern, I suggest following this guidance to identify which caused the problem with OneNote storage:

1/ Identify where the notebook is stored

In OneNote, open the affected notebook and go to File > Info (or notebook properties) > look at the notebook’s link/URL.

    • If it’s OneDrive: Go to OneDrive on the web > locate the notebook file/folder > check the notebook size/properties > if it exceeds the 2GB limit, that's the problem causing the storage error message.
    • If it's SharePoint/Teams: the SharePoint site’s allocated storage quota is exceeded, which is separate from your personal 1 TB view. In that case, you should contact your SharePoint/IT admin to adjust quota or clean up the site.

2/ Check local disk space & clear OneNote cache

    • Ensure you have free disk space.
    • Reset OneNote cache by go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps > OneNote > Advanced options > Repair/Reset

I hope this helps you move forward smoothly. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to reach out again. I'm happy to support you further.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Looking forward to your response.

It sounds like you are encountering a storage issue with OneNote, despite having available space in your account. This can happen for a few reasons:

    1. Sync Issues: Sometimes, OneNote may not sync properly with the cloud, leading to discrepancies in storage reporting. Ensure that your OneNote app is fully synced by checking for any sync status messages.
    2. Account Authentication: Make sure you are signed into the correct account that has the available storage. If you are logged into a different account, it may show a storage error.
    3. Network Connection: A poor network connection can also cause issues with syncing and accessing your notes. Ensure you have a stable internet connection.
    4. Storage Quota: Although you see that you are using only 36.7 GB of 1 TB, there might be other factors affecting your OneNote storage, such as shared notebooks or other services linked to your account.

If the problem persists, consider checking the OneNote support documentation or reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance.
