Good morning,

I am an avid user of one note across my devices. I bought a Samsung ultra as a replacement for my Samsung note 10 because of the pen and ability to use one note on the move and interactively with my surface. Last week out of the blue it started to lag badly and is really unusable on my phone (surface remains fine.) This is the only reason that i picked the ultra and to date it has been amazing. i have tried all the usual fixed with no success. the app continues to work ok on my old note 10 which i have as a home phone. why has this happened and what can I do to resolve. other than downloading a Samsung update i have done nothing new.

I did the same thing, and it works without any issues now. Everything I complained about is fixed.

Now it's just the usual thing that the iOS and computer versions are much better.

OneNote just got a new update so I tested it. The problem is still not solved. How can Microsoft still not have fixed this issue that has been known since January?

So I just had to uninstall again and install the old update again.

    Dear Justin Adams

Thank you for reaching out to the Q&A forum, and I’m sorry for the inconvenience you’ve encountered. Also, thank you for being such a dedicated OneNote user, I’m sure Microsoft is honored to have you as an avid supporter.

To better assist you, could you please help clarify a few things?

1> What exactly are the symptoms of the lag you’re experiencing? For example:

    • Does it take a long time to load files?
    • When using the S Pen, do the strokes lag or not follow the pen smoothly?
    • Are there delays when typing, scrolling, or switching pages?

2> You mentioned you’ve tried “all the usual fixes” , could you list what you’ve already attempted? (e.g., clearing cache, reinstalling the app, updating, etc.) so I don’t suggest steps you’ve already done.

3> When you say you installed a Samsung update, was it a One UI update? If so, which version are you currently on? I also found some reports indicating that after updating to One UI 7.0, Microsoft Office apps (including OneNote) may lag or fail to open. You can refer to this thread for more context and two workaround suggestions: Samsung OneUI 7.0 update causes WORD to not open – Microsoft Q&A

Additionally, there’s a recent report about OneDrive app V7.45.1 (Android) not working with Android OS 16 on the SM-G736U (Xcover 6). Since OneNote stores data on OneDrive, this might be worth checking as well.

Could you confirm whether your OneNote files have been synced to the cloud (OneDrive) during your troubleshooting? This is important to ensure no data is lost.

Lastly, could you please provide the following details so I can investigate further?

    • The exact model of your Samsung Ultra device (e.g., S22 Ultra, S23 Ultra, etc.)
    • The type of account you’re using with OneNote (e.g., personal Microsoft account or work/school account)
    • The current version of the OneNote app
    • Your device’s Android version and One UI version

On my side, I’ve tested OneNote on a Samsung S25 Ultra and it’s working normally, even the S Pen input is smooth. Please share the additional details above so I can help you more effectively.

It sounds like you're experiencing performance issues with OneNote on your Samsung Ultra device. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the lagging issue:

    1. Clear Cache: Go to your device's settings, find the OneNote app, and clear its cache. This can help improve performance.
    2. Update OneNote: Ensure that you have the latest version of OneNote installed. Check the Google Play Store for any available updates.
    3. Check for Device Updates: Sometimes, system updates can improve app performance. Go to your device settings and check for any available updates for your Samsung Ultra.
    4. Reboot Your Device: Restarting your phone can sometimes resolve temporary issues and improve performance.
    5. Reinstall OneNote: If the problem persists, consider uninstalling and then reinstalling the OneNote app. This can help if there are any corrupted files causing the lag.
    6. Free Up Storage: Ensure that your device has enough free storage space, as low storage can affect app performance.
    7. Check Background Apps: Close any unnecessary apps running in the background that may be using resources and causing OneNote to lag.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be worth reaching out to Samsung support or checking forums for any device-specific issues related to OneNote performance.
