SDS not creating new teams and syncing students to expired/archived teams

Hi

We archived and did the clean up of teams in SDS which has set last years class teams etc to archived and expired.

Selected the start new year transition and went through the process and linked up to our new CSV files (also automated via a FLOW)

When the sync ran teams that didnt exist before where created and staff and student added. But no new teams recreated for this years classes.

On investigation I have found that it has added the 2026 students to the archived/expired classes (renamed by the group clean up to Exp0126_*****

I have tried re-running the sync serveral times, but the same and now we have Expired 2026 teams with two year groups in them as they have been added to old and not setup with new.

Nothing seems to be sorting it, not sure where to go from here.

Thanks
Scott.

It seems that you are experiencing issues with the School Data Sync (SDS) not creating new teams for the current academic year and instead adding students to archived or expired teams. Here are some steps and considerations that might help resolve the issue:

    1. Check Source Data: Ensure that the new CSV files you are linking contain the correct class information for the current academic year. If the source data does not reflect the new classes, SDS will not create new teams.
    2. Sync Configuration: Verify that your sync configuration is set up correctly to recognize and create new teams based on the current academic year data. You may need to review the settings to ensure they are aligned with the new academic session.
    3. Clean-Up Process: Since you have archived previous teams, ensure that the clean-up process has been completed successfully. If the archived teams are still linked to the new data, this could lead to students being added to those teams instead of creating new ones.
    4. Manual Cleanup: If the automated processes are not functioning as expected, consider performing a manual cleanup of the archived teams to ensure they are not interfering with the new sync process.
    5. Re-run Sync: After confirming the above steps, try re-running the sync again. Sometimes, multiple runs are necessary to ensure that changes are fully processed.
    6. Consult Documentation: For more detailed guidance, refer to the official documentation on transitioning to a new academic year and managing teams within SDS. This may provide specific instructions or troubleshooting steps relevant to your situation.

If the issue persists after trying these steps, you may want to reach out to Microsoft support for further assistance.
