Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

    Please clarify the following:

    • The microphone only doesn't work on the Duolingo website, or does it not work on other websites as well?
    • If it doesn't work on other websites either, check if the microphone works in other Windows applications. One suggestion is the "Sound Recorder" app. To find the application, open the Start Menu and type Sound Recorder. Make a short recording and listen to it to see if the audio was recorded and how it came out.

Also, what is the manufacturer and model of your computer?

If you prefer, you can share a screenshot of your system information.

    • Press "Windows + R", type msinfo32 and press Enter.

Maximize the window and use the shortcut "Windows + Shift + S" to use the screenshot tool.

    I await your reply.

To troubleshoot your microphone issue in Duolingo on your new Windows 11 laptop, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Microphone Permissions: Ensure that Duolingo has permission to access your microphone in both your browser settings and Windows settings. Sometimes, permissions may not be granted even if they appear to be set correctly.
    2. Test Microphone Functionality: You can test if your microphone is working outside of Duolingo. Use the built-in voice recorder or any other application that can access the microphone to verify that it is functioning properly.
    3. Browser Settings: Since you are using Microsoft Edge, make sure that the browser is not blocking microphone access. You can check this by going to the browser settings and looking for privacy and security settings related to microphone access.
    4. Device Manager: Open Device Manager (you can search for it in the taskbar) and check if your microphone is listed under "Audio inputs and outputs." If it is not, there may be a driver issue or the device may not be recognized.
    5. Update Drivers: Ensure that your audio drivers are up to date. You can do this through Device Manager by right-clicking on your audio device and selecting "Update driver."
    6. Check for Conflicting Applications: Sometimes, other applications that use the microphone can cause conflicts. Make sure no other applications are using the microphone while you are trying to use Duolingo.

If you have checked all these settings and the microphone still does not work, consider restarting your laptop or checking for Windows updates that might address any underlying issues.
