Wireless headphones disconnecting and connecting and bugging out in MS Teams

I'm trying to take my online classes but like every 5 or 10 minutes the headphone says "Disconnected". Then i can't hear anything. After like 2 or 3 seconds it says 'Connected' but it then the laptop's speaker starts to speak but then after 3 or 4 seconds it starts to use my headphones again. My laptop's speaker is REALLY old so its very unappealing to listen through.
Also when I play games with the headphones nothing happens. It uses Stereo. but when i use MS Teams it starts to use this other secret type which sounds nothing like Stereo. None of any other audio can go through the headphones while using MS Teams. I tried to go to audio settings and manually set it to Stereo but then i can't hear anything when even when both the laptop's playback device and MS Team's speakers are set to P9 Stereo. but when i change the speakers back to the other mystery kind i can hear everything again but not any other sources.
and something else weird i found out is that whenever im using MS Teams, the youtube audio also only works on the other mystery kind. is this intentional also the first paragraph is realy the only problem

    Dear @Saad Iftikhar,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft 365 Q&A forum. We understand how disruptive it is to have your audio cut out during online classes. The issues you are describing the frequent disconnections and the "mystery" audio quality are common behaviors related to how Bluetooth handles Hands-Free vs. Stereo profiles during active calls.

To help me narrow down the cause, could you please provide the following details?

    1. Which specific model of Bluetooth headphones are you using?
    2. Have you noticed if the issue occurs in any other applications or only with MS Teams?
    3. What operating system and version are you using on your laptop?

In the meantime, please try the following official troubleshooting options which usually resolve issues with basic issues:

Option 1: Fix the "Mystery" audio (Stereo vs. Hands-Free)

    Bluetooth headphones have two modes:

    1. Stereo (A2DP): High quality, used for music/games, but the microphone is off.
    2. Hands-Free (HFP/HSP): Lower quality, used for calls (Teams/Zoom) so the microphone and speakers can work simultaneously.

Teams automatically switches to "Hands-Free" to enable your mic. If you try to force "Stereo" while the mic is active, the audio will cut out because Bluetooth bandwidth cannot support high-quality stereo and a microphone at the same time.

Option 2: Stop the constant disconnecting

The "Disconnected/Connected" loop often happens when Teams and Windows fight over which audio device is the "Default."

Step A: Set a Single Default Device

    1. Go to Control Panel > Sound.
    2. Under the Playback tab, right-click your headphones (Hands-Free/AG Audio) and select Set as Default Communication Device.
    3. Under the Recording tab, do the same for your headphone's microphone.  User's image

    Step B: Disable exclusive mode

    1. In the same Sound menu, right-click your headphones > Properties > Advanced.
    2. Uncheck "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device." This prevents Teams from "crashing" the driver when YouTube or other apps try to play sound.  User's image

Option 3: Adjust Teams internal settings

    1. In MS Teams, click the three dots next to your profile picture > Settings > Devices.
    2. Ensure Speaker and Microphone are both set to the "Hands-Free" version of your headphones.
    3. Turn Noise Suppression to "Low" or "Off" to reduce the processing load on your headset.  User's image

    Option 4: Reconnect your device

Remove your Bluetooth device and pair it again:

    1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices
    2. Remove your speaker
    3. Turn Bluetooth off and back on again
    4. Re-pair your speaker

When you are in a Teams call, your headphones "lock" into the Hands-Free mode. Because the hardware is busy with the call, any other audio (like YouTube) must also use that same Hands-Free channel to be heard. You cannot hear high-quality Stereo music while your microphone is active in Teams.

If you use a separate microphone (like the one built into your laptop) instead of the headphone's mic, your headphones will stay in high-quality Stereo mode even during classes.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with your wireless headphones while using Microsoft Teams. Here are a few potential causes and solutions for the problems you're encountering:

    1. Bluetooth Connectivity Issues: Frequent disconnections can occur if multiple Bluetooth devices are connected at the same time or if the Bluetooth radio on your laptop is overloaded. Try disconnecting other Bluetooth devices and see if that stabilizes the connection.
    2. Teams Button Functionality: If you are using a Bluetooth headset with a Teams button, it may not work consistently when the Teams desktop client is closed and reopened. You might need to turn off and on your headset to resolve the issue if the Teams button does not work after reopening the app.
    3. Audio Device Configuration: Microsoft Teams may switch audio profiles when it connects to your headphones. This can cause issues with audio quality and playback. Ensure that your headphones are set as the default playback device in the Windows sound settings. You may also want to check if your headphones are Teams-certified, as this can affect compatibility and performance.
    4. Driver Updates: Make sure that your Bluetooth and audio drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can lead to connectivity and audio issues. You can check for updates in the Device Manager under the Bluetooth and Sound, Video, and Game Controllers sections.
    5. Testing Other Applications: Since you mentioned that audio works differently in games and other applications, it might be worth testing your headphones with other communication software to see if the issue is specific to Microsoft Teams.

If problems persist after trying these suggestions, consider using a USB dongle for a more stable connection, especially in high-density wireless environments.
