Opening, sharing, and managing OneDrive-stored documents directly within Microsoft Teams
Hello @Shona Floate,
Good day! Thank you for posting your valuable question on the Microsoft Q&A forum.
Based on your description, I understand that you are a member of a private channel in Microsoft Teams, and while you are able to access the channel itself, the Files tab does not load. You have already tried restarting your computer, verified your permissions, and were recently made an owner of the private channel, but the issue still persists.
Please let me know if I misunderstood any part of your issue or if there are additional details you’d like to share.
To help us provide the most accurate and effective solution, could you please share a bit more information about your environment and what you are currently experiencing:
- What exactly happens when you click on the Files tab (For example: blank page, endless loading spinner, or an error message.) ?
- Are other members of the same private channel able to access the Files tab without issues, or does this affect multiple users?
- Was the private channel created recently, or has it been in use for some time?
- When you were added to this channel, is there any option to share all history and files?
- Are you experiencing this issue in:
- Microsoft Teams desktop app
- Teams web app (browser)
- Teams for mobile device
- Or all of the above?
- What operating system are you using (Windows, macOS, etc.)?
- Have you tried accessing the private channel’s files directly from SharePoint Online?
This additional context will help us understand your environment and the steps already taken so we can tailor the guidance to resolve the issue effectively.
In the meantime, if the issue is happening on a Teams desktop client, you can:
Clear the Microsoft Teams cache and sign in again:
On Windows:
- Navigate to your Taskbar and look for the Microsoft Teams icon. Right-click the icon and choose Quit. This will force the Teams app to quit.
- Next, copy and paste the following location into File Explorer: %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams, and delete the contents of the entire folder.
- Restart Microsoft Teams by opening the application and logging back in.
On a Mac:
- Right-click the Teams icon in the taskbar and choose Quit.
- Next, delete the directory ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams.
- Restart Microsoft Teams by opening the application and logging back in.
On Mobile device (iOS/Android)
There’s no manual cache clearing option, but you can:
- Sign out and sign back in.
- Or uninstall and reinstall the app to reset the cache.
Note: Deleting the cache won't remove Microsoft Teams from your device, but will remove the web client cache, icons, thumbnails, local message history, your Teams display images, and any other Teams add-ons.
I apologize if I could not jump straight to a solution at this stage. I want to avoid suggesting anything that might be inaccurate or unhelpful without fully understanding your setup.
Once we have the details above, we’ll be able to assist you more effectively and guide you toward the most appropriate resolution.
Looking forward to your response so we can get this sorted out together.
