A Microsoft Viva module that provides employees with formal and informal learning.
Dear @Rifkat Galeev,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum!
Based on your description, I would like to give you some insights in this case:
This behavior may be expected when integrating Microsoft Learn with Viva Learning.
1.Microsoft Learn does not support historical completion sync into Viva Learning:
Viva Learning may only display Microsoft Learn completions that are sent as progress/completion signals from the content provider. Microsoft Learn does not provide historical learning transcripts or past completions to Viva Learning. As documented in Track progress in Viva Learning, content that does not share progress/completion information with Viva Learning requires the user to manually mark it as completed, please kindly see more details in here: Track progress in Viva Learning
This is why previously‑finished Microsoft Learn courses may not appear in Viva Learning automatically.
- You are looking for a setting to activate Learner Record Sync (LRS) manually. But:
- There is no admin setting for enabling Learner Record Sync specifically for Microsoft Learn.
- Sync becomes active automatically as part of the Microsoft Learn provider integration.
- The only toggle available is Content Sync, which syncs content metadata, not learners’ historical results.
The Enable Learner Record Sync article you referenced applies only to external LMS systems (e.g., SAP SuccessFactors...). It explains how Viva Learning ingests learner records from an LMS via packaged assignment/completion data. Reference: Enable Learner Record Sync
Microsoft Learn is not an LMS and does not generate these learner‑record packages. Therefore, there is no toggle and no method to activate Learner Record Sync for Microsoft Learn.
3.What does sync automatically from Microsoft Learn:
- Catalog metadata.
- New completions going forward, when Microsoft Learn sends a progress/completion event to Viva Learning.
Historical completions cannot be synced because Microsoft Learn does not expose them in a way Viva Learning can ingest.
Therefore, if historical learn data is important for your organization, your current option is manually marking items completed (only method available today).
As a forum moderator, my resources are very limited, and this behavior is completely out of my control in this role. I understand that it is not comfortable and you may not be satisfied with this feature at the moment. Also, I have come across many users discussing this issue on our forum. Therefore, the best course of action at this time is to send feedback directly to Microsoft.
You can do this by submitting a feature request via the Microsoft Feedback Portal to support historical Learn transcript ingestion. Sharing your experience helps Microsoft prioritize feature improvements in this scenario. Once you submit your feedback there, other users and I can locate your post and vote for it, which increases your visibility and priority to the product team. And I appreciate you raising this issue. Your action can help others in our community who face the same concern.
I hope this information can give you more insights. Wish you a pleasant day!
