Blocked from Microsoft for Startups due to Azure free account eligibility – credit card verification failing

Hi everyone, I’m a startup founder applying to Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub, but I’m stuck during the Azure setup step. I receive the message “You’re not eligible for an Azure free account”, and my credit card verification keeps failing even though I’m using valid cards.

I’m building a SaaS product , and Azure is required to complete onboarding. I suspect this may be related to regional billing or account eligibility rather than the startup itself.

Has anyone faced this issue before? How did you proceed—manual review, pay-as-you-go Azure, or support escalation?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello EL ARABI BERRACHED you're experiencing issues with setting up your Azure account for the Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub, especially around credit card verification and eligibility for the free account. This can definitely be frustrating. Here are some things you can check and try:

    Steps to Troubleshoot the Issue:

    1. Verify Your Information: Ensure that all your Azure profile details, including contact email, street address, country/region, and phone number, are correct. Note that once you set your country, it can't be changed.
    2. Credit Card Requirements: Make sure you're using a credit card or debit card (non-prepaid) accepted for Azure subscriptions. Virtual or prepaid cards are not accepted. If you're in Hong Kong or Brazil, only certain credit cards are valid. Also, ensure that the billing address for your card matches what your bank has on file.
    3. Identity Verification by Phone: Double-check your phone number for verification. If you're not receiving a verification code, ensure you're not using a VoIP number and that you're able to receive calls or texts from a U.S. number.
    4. Browser Settings: If the page seems stuck during sign-up, make sure that your browser allows third-party cookies. This can often resolve issues during the identity verification process.
    5. Alternative Method: If you continue to face issues, consider signing up for a Pay-As-You-Go subscription directly as it may bypass some of the free account eligibility checks. You can still receive monthly free amounts of services, but you won't get the $200 credit.

    Seeking Additional Help:

If none of the above works, you might want to look into escalating your issue to support for a manual review. It sounds like you've checked the essentials, but there might be an account-related detail preventing you from completing the registration.
