    Hello Luz,

Thank you for reaching out and I appreciate you sharing what you’re experiencing while trying to activate Microsoft Office on your new Mac. I know how frustrating it can feel when you’ve already purchased and installed Office but it still won’t let you use it especially when you expect to get started right away. This kind of issue often happens when the activation files or account credentials on the device aren’t being recognized properly but the good news is that there are several things we can try to get everything working smoothly again.

Another solution you can follow is to start by making sure the macOS keychain isn’t blocking Office from saving your sign‑in details because permission issues there can prevent successful activation. You can open the Keychain Access app and search for any entries related to Microsoft Office then delete them so the system can create fresh ones when you sign in again. After that try launching Word or Excel and sign in using the exact email account associated with your Microsoft 365 or Office purchase. If the sign‑in window doesn’t appear or the app still won’t activate you can also try resetting the Office activation files by deleting the Microsoft Office licensing folder from your Library directory which forces Office to re‑register your license the next time you open it. Restart your Mac afterward to clear any cached sessions that may be interfering with activation. Once your Mac is back on open an Office app again and it should prompt you to sign in so it can validate the license tied to your Microsoft account.

To make sure we’re moving in the right direction, may I ask whether you’re signing in with the same email address you used when you purchased Office?

I hope this answer is helpful if you have further questions feel free to reply back

    Regards,

    Marcelo

If you're having trouble activating Microsoft Office on your Mac, here are detailed steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

    1. Ensure Office for Mac is Updated:
      • Make sure that you have the latest version of Office installed. You can check for updates by opening any Office app (like Word or Excel), clicking on the Help menu, and selecting Check for Updates. Keeping Office updated can resolve many activation issues.
    2. Use the Mac License Removal Tool:
      • If there are issues with the license files, you can use the Mac License removal tool to remove any existing license files. This tool can help clear out corrupted license files that might be causing activation problems. Instructions on how to use this tool can be found in the Microsoft support documentation.
    3. Sign in with a Local User Account:
      • If you are signed in to your Mac using a network account (like an Open Directory account), this might prevent Office from writing your credentials into the keychain. To fix this:
        • Sign out of your network account.
        • Create a local user account by going to System Preferences > Users & Groups. Click the lock to make changes, enter your password, then click the + button to create a new account. After creating the account, log in to it and try activating Office again.
    4. Check Your License:
      • Ensure that your Microsoft 365 license is assigned to your account. If you're using a Work or School account, you may not have the necessary license assigned. Contact your administrator to verify that you have the correct license assigned. If you have Microsoft 365 for Business Basic, note that it does not include Office desktop applications.
    5. Reinstall Office:
      • If the above steps do not resolve the issue, consider uninstalling and then reinstalling Office. You can use the Microsoft 365 Uninstall troubleshooter to assist with this process. After uninstalling, restart your Mac, then download and install the correct version of Office from the Microsoft website.
    6. Try Activating Again:
      • After following the above steps, attempt to activate Office again. Open any Office app, and you should be prompted to sign in. Make sure to use the account associated with your Microsoft 365 license.

If you continue to experience issues after trying these steps, you may want to consult the Microsoft support documentation or contact their support team for further assistance.
