How do I change my verification mobile number

My Microsoft family 365 has expired but I can not pay for it because the phone number that you send the verification code to is no longer in use so I need to change the old number (**PII removed**) to the mobile number **PII removed** . But I can not find how to do this and pay my subscription as even though I had added the new number to my profile it6 still sends out to the old number.

Thank you

    Hi Martess,

This is April, I'll be happy to assist you. Sorry to hear that you're having issue with Microsoft account verification phone number. Let me help you out.

Based on the description of the issue you provided, you're unable to renew your Microsoft 365 Family subscription because verification codes are still being sent to your old mobile number, even though you've already added a new number to your account profile.

When you attempt to renew your Microsoft 365 Family subscription, does the system prompt you to verify only through the old mobile number or do you see the option to use the newly added number as well?

Your Microsoft account is still relying on outdated security information specifically the old phone number for verification, even though you've already added a new number to your profile. Updating your contact details doesn't automatically change the phone number used sign-in and payment verification. To fix this, you'll need to update the number directly in your security settings.

    1. Sign in Microsoft Account Security
    2. Update your Security Information
      • In the Security info section, review the phone number(s) currently used for verification.
      • Click Update info or Add a new way to sign in or verify.
      • Enter your new mobile number and confirm it using the verification code sent to that phone.
      • After verification, set the new number as your default verification method.
    3. Remove the Old Phone Number
      • Return to the Security info list once the new number is verified
      • Select the old phone number and click Remove
      • If removal isn't immediately available, Microsoft may apply a 30-day security waiting period for sensitive changes. You'll still be able to sign in during this time, but certain actions such as subscription payments may be temporarily limited until the changes is fully completed.
    4. Renew your Microsoft 365 Family Subscription
      • After the new number becomes active, go to https://account.microsoft.com/services
      • Locate your Microsoft 365 Family subscription and select Renew.
      • Complete the payment using your updated verification method.

If you're unable to access your account because verification codes are being sent to an old number, you'll need to complete the account recovery process: https://account.live.com/acsr

Microsoft may temporarily place restrictions on payments until your updated security information is fully verified, which can take up to 30 days.

If you need immediate access, contact Microsoft Support and explain that you verification number is outdated.

You can contact the live support here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/home/contact

    • You need to sign to another Microsoft account in order to access this page.
    1. Enter your issue and click Get Help
    2. Click "Contact Support" that you will see on the lower part of the page
    3. Under "Products and Services", click "Select your product or service" and select the product you want to ask about. You can select "Windows'
    4. Under “Category”, click “Select your support category” and select the category you want to ask about. You can select "Billing and Account profile questions"
    5. Press Confirm
    6. Press Chat with a support agent in your web browser

I hope this helps. If you need further assistance you can reply to this message.

    Thank you,

    April P.
