Opening, sharing, and managing OneDrive-stored documents directly within Teams
Dear Ambesh Jha,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A.
I’m truly sorry you’re experiencing this issue. I completely understand that you may have had a lot of important data in your previous account that you need to recover, and waiting for months without a clear answer can be very frustrating.
Based on my knowledge and experience with Microsoft 365, the previous AI response was correct in one key point: when an institutional account is deleted, all associated data is retained only for a limited time called the retention period. By default, this is about 30 days, and organizations can extend it up to 93 days. After that, the data is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered by Microsoft. Recreating the account with the same email address does not restore the old data because it is treated as a completely new account.
I know this is certainly not the answer you were hoping for, and I really wish I could help you recover the data directly. However, as a community moderator, I don’t have the ability to access or restore data on Microsoft’s side. What you can do now is check with your institution’s IT department to see if they have any third-party backup solution (such as Veeam, AvePoint, or similar).
Thank you for bringing this up, and I appreciate your patience.
Warm regards,
