I cannot sign in with both personal and work account in iPad

There is no iPadOS flair, so I use the iOS flair.

I'm using OneNote for a long time now, but since my primary personal and my primary work alias have changed I logged out of both, reinstalled OneNote and now am trying to log back in. On my iPhone this works. I first login with personal and then with business. Sometimes it randomly shows my old aliases instead of the new ones, but that a minor issue.

On the iPad however, if I first login with my personal account (successfully) and then try to login with my business account I can enter the alias and get prompted the password. After entering this and pressing the continue button it takes me back to my settings, but the account isn't added, but I also don't get a wrong password error or something like this.

If I first add the business account (successfully) and then try to login with my personal account I am logged in, but only till I close OneNote. When I reopen it my personal account is gone from the account overview again. Also, if I do it this way, I can't login into my personal account with my passkey, but have to enter my recovery e-mail to get a verification code.

Any ideas what's happening here?

    Hi @gernophil,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum.

Typically, mixing personal and work accounts in OneNote on iPad can sometimes fail due to credential conflicts or misconfigured account data.

You should clear the credentials cache on your iPad and add them one by one at a time.

    1. Remove cached accounts from iOS
    • Navigate to Settings > Accounts & Passwords (or Mail > Accounts on newer iOS versions).
    • Remove any Microsoft accounts both personal and work linked to the device.
    • Also check Settings > OneNote to ensure no residual account information remains.
    1. Clear apps data

Cleared app data from Settings > General > iPhone Storage > OneNote.

    1. Clear browser cookies and cache
    • Clear cookies and cache on all browsers installed on the device.
    • After clearing, open a browser and visit office.com to confirm you’re prompted to sign in again.
    1. Sign out from all Microsoft apps
    • If apps like Outlook, OneDrive, or other Microsoft services are installed, sign out from all of them to prevent token conflicts.
    1. Reset iOS single sign-on
    • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Sign-In with Microsoft (or SSO settings if available).
    • Remove any linked accounts to reset the single sign-on configuration.
    1. Perform a full credential reset
    • Uninstall both OneNote and Authenticator.
    • Restart the iPhone.
    • Reinstall Authenticator and add the work account.
    • Reinstall OneNote and attempt to sign in fresh

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this.
