I have already tried to make a short video from my game. My iPaid Air was connected to my MacBook Air and I have played my game on my iPad Air and simultaneously I recorded a video with the QuickTime player.

The video has the following informations:

Dimensions: 2360x1640

Codecs: MPEG-4 AAC, H.264

Color profile: (1-13-1)

Audio: Stereo

How can I create the correct screenshots for the Apple App Store and Google Play Store? Can I take screenshots or extract frames from my recorded video? Which resolution and which format(png?) should I use for screenshots so that I can upload them to the stores?

I know that I need screenshots in different resolutions in the stores. But I don´t know if the resolution is the only thing that matters when I try to create screenshots for the stores.

Which dimensions and lenght should I choose for the video so that I can upload it to the stores?

    Hello @Kim Strasser ,

How can I create the correct screenshots for the Apple App Store and Google Play Store?

You can find the complete specifications here: Apple's screenshot requirements and Google Play's asset guidelines.

While these are not Microsoft websites, they provide the official requirements for App Store and Google Play.

A simple workflow would be: Record gameplay → pick the moments → then create two outputs:

    • For Apple screenshots: export stills to exact Apple screenshot sizes (PNG/JPEG) for the required device groups.
    • For Apple App Preview: cut to 15–30s and export to the accepted preview resolution (for iPad often 1600×1200 landscape), H.264, ≤30 fps.
    • For Google Play screenshots: export PNG/JPEG within 320–3840 px and the 2× rule.
    • For Google Play video: publish on YouTube and use the video URL in Play Console.

Can I take screenshots or extract frames from my recorded video?

Yes. But extracted frames can look a bit softer than native screenshots. If you can, prefer capturing them directly from the device or simulator.

But I don´t know if the resolution is the only thing that matters when I try to create screenshots for the stores.

Aside from resolution, the format and content matter too. Ensure your screenshots accurately represent your app's functionality.

I hope this clarifies, and happy holidays.

To create screenshots and videos in the correct resolution for your game to upload to the App Store and Google Play Store, you should follow the specific requirements for each platform:

    Screenshots

    1. Format: Use PNG file format for screenshots.
    2. Dimensions:
      • Apple App Store: The recommended dimensions vary based on the device type. For example, for iPhone, you might need screenshots of 1242 x 2688 pixels for iPhone XS Max, and for iPad, 2048 x 2732 pixels for iPad Pro.
      • Google Play Store: The recommended dimensions are typically 1080 x 1920 pixels for portrait and 1920 x 1080 pixels for landscape.
    3. Quantity: Provide at least one screenshot per device type, but it's recommended to upload multiple screenshots (at least four) to showcase different aspects of your game.
    4. Content: Ensure that the screenshots clearly represent the gameplay and do not include any logos, age rating icons, or other promotional text.

    Videos

    1. Format: Use a video format that is widely accepted, such as MP4 (H.264 codec).
    2. Dimensions: Aim for a resolution that matches your gameplay, such as 1920 x 1080 pixels (1080p) or 3840 x 2160 pixels (4K) if your game supports it.
    3. Length: Keep the video short, ideally between 30 seconds to 2 minutes, highlighting key gameplay features and mechanics.
    4. Accessibility: Consider adding closed captions and audio descriptions to make your video more accessible.

    Extracting Screenshots from Video

You can extract frames from your recorded video to create screenshots, but ensure that the extracted frames meet the resolution and format requirements specified above.

By adhering to these guidelines, you can prepare your screenshots and videos effectively for submission to the App Store and Google Play Store.
