Outlook.com account not receiving verification or other legitimate emails despite premium subscription and relaxed junk settings

Hello,

I have a long-standing Outlook.com / Hotmail account which I now use with an Outlook Premium subscription (additional storage).

I am having a persistent issue where many legitimate emails never arrive in my mailbox, especially verification emails and one-time codes from websites and services. This is now preventing me from logging in to various government and professional portals.

Originally I ran out of storage on this account. Around that time I also set the junk mail settings to a stricter level because I was receiving a large volume of unwanted messages. Since then, even though I have tried to correct this, I am still not receiving many important emails.

Current behaviour:

  • Some normal emails arrive as expected.
  • Many verification emails and important transactional emails do not arrive at all.
  • These missing messages are not in Inbox, Junk, Deleted Items or any other visible folder.

Changes and checks I have already made:

  • Upgraded to an Outlook.com premium plan with extra storage.
  • Changed junk mail settings back from “strict” to a less strict level.
  • Checked and adjusted Junk email, Safe senders and Blocked senders lists.
  • Checked that there are no rules moving or deleting messages.
  • Reviewed subscriptions and notifications on the sender side where possible.

Despite this, verification and many other legitimate emails still never reach my account. There is no bounce message shown to the sender; the messages simply never arrive.

My questions:

  1. Is it possible that my account has some hidden filter, block or reputation issue on the server side that would silently discard certain messages (for example, verification emails)?
  2. Is there any way for support to check my account specifically for this type of problem?
  3. What can I do to ensure that verification and other important emails are always delivered, rather than being blocked before they reach Junk?

I would be very grateful for any guidance, as this problem is now significantly affecting my ability to complete essential personal and professional tasks.

Kind regards,

    Hi!

I have a similar problem. I have tried to find:
"Select Microsoft account > Manage account security.

    • Request chat or callback and explain that legitimate emails are not arriving despite relaxed junk settings and premium subscription. "

But I can not find it. I really need help with this, can you please direct me to someone who can help??

    Dear Shama Chaudhary

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Community. I understand how frustrating and disruptive it can be when essential verification emails do not arrive, especially when they prevent you from accessing important services. I am happy to assist you.

    1. Is it possible that my account has some hidden filter, block or reputation issue on the server side that would silently discard certain messages (for example, verification emails)?

Yes. Outlook.com applies advanced filtering and authentication checks. Emails from domains that fail SPF, DKIM, or DMARC authentication, or from senders with poor reputation, can be silently rejected before reaching your mailbox. This is by design to prevent spoofing and phishing.

    2. Is there any way for support to check my account specifically for this type of problem?

Yes. If you have confirmed that sender authentication is correct and the issue persists, you can request backend investigation by :

    • Go to Microsoft Support Contact.
    • Select Microsoft account > Manage account security.
    • Request chat or callback and explain that legitimate emails are not arriving despite relaxed junk settings and premium subscription.
    • Note: The support contact team only works at certain times, so if the last window shows that it's unavailable, try opening it again the next day. If you prefer phone support, you can leave a phone number. This way, they can call you and help you.

    3. What can I do to ensure that verification and other important emails are always delivered, rather than being blocked before they reach Junk?

    Please kindly follow these steps:

    • Confirm sender compliance: Ask the service providers to verify SPF, DKIM, and DMARC settings.
    • Check sender reputation: Their IT team should use Microsoft SNDS and JMRP tools to ensure their IP/domain is not flagged.
    • Add trusted senders: Add domains to your Safe Senders list in Outlook.com settings.
    • Use alternate verification methods: Set up Microsoft Authenticator and add backup phone/email under account.microsoft.com/security.
    • Forwarding workaround: Create an alternate email account and update third-party services to send codes there, then forward to your Outlook.com account.

I understand this situation is impacting your ability to complete essential tasks. Please kindly follow these steps to see if they resolve the problems . Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
