Hi Kirsten Frost
Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum and sharing your experience.
I understand how disruptive it can be when familiar text‑selection gestures don’t behave as expected.
I tested this behavior on OneNote for Mac version 16.104, and the results appear to be the same across supported macOS versions. At this time, OneNote for Mac may not fully support the “double‑click + drag to extend selection” gesture that works reliably in many other macOS applications. OneNote uses a different text‑editing engine from the other Office apps, so some macOS text‑handling behaviors are not implemented consistently across the suite.
In the meantime, here are a few workarounds that currently function reliably in OneNote for Mac based on my testing:
- Triple‑click to select an entire paragraph, then use Shift + click or Shift + arrow keys to fine‑tune the selection.
- Double‑click a word to highlight it, then hold Shift and use the left/right arrow keys to extend the selection.
If this gesture is important to your daily workflow, I recommend sharing your feedback directly with the OneNote team via the Microsoft Feedback Portal. User feedback is a key factor in prioritizing improvements across platforms.
While this Q&A forum is a helpful place to share findings and receive guidance, submitting feedback directly to Microsoft is the most effective way to influence product development. Your input is truly appreciated and helps shape future improvements.
Thank you for your patience and for continuing to advocate for better usability and accessibility in OneNote for Mac.
